AES output disable between tracks

Hello HiFi Rose,

Is the RS130 AES output disable between tracks?
I have the Holo Audio May DAC connected to the RS130 with AES, my DAC have to re-lock every track even on the same album with same sampling frequency.

Thanks,
KK

Hello, sorry, but at Rose, this problem is included with their devices : →

@Kktong
Thank you for sharing your issue.
Could you please send a video of the issue to the email address below so we can verify the exact issue?

It’s a joke!!

I think you’re kidding us!!

This cut-off concern has been repeatedly mentioned with the Spdif and AES outputs

Videos have been sent for months and you are surprised by the problem as it was new?

See the linked message

It is definitely a design issue.
No hope for a fix.
I think this problem has been mentioned by user for very long time.
Unacceptable for any product at this price point.

@Kktong
I’ve sent you feedback by email. Please check.
Thanks you

@Rose_love
OK, so the solution is to turn ON gapless and play tracks with the same sampling frequency or up-sampling every tracks in the playlist to the same sampling frequency to avoid DAC unlocking issue.

It is definitely not the problem of the DAC as it takes time to lock and extract the clock from AES.

PCM delay does not work when gapless is ON

With gapless OFF, pcm delay is not implemented correctly.

Why it is so hard to implement PCM delay correctly?

It is a very annoying though the work around work OK when every tracks in the play list have the same sampling frequency.

What is the problem you guys in HiFi Rose avoid to fix this pcm delay feature?

@Kktong
As I sent you by email.
We will review your additional request internally and respond to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for using Rose products.

Hope you guys at HiFi rose take this problem seriously.

PCM delay is a fundamental feature.
It is easy to fix.

I can even work around this by putting a silent track of a few seconds in between the tracks on the playlist, throublesome though, but can solve the issue.

Only for interest: I’m owning also a Holo Audio May (and Cyan2) and not understanding why you’re using here AES (thought, that PLL is set to on in the May)? Are you in NOS mode?
I prefer here in any way USB (then the external clock isn’t needed) or (because the May has only one USB in, but two I2S) I2S for other sources.
For me both Holo Audio DACs are working perfectly in using a RS150 and RS451 (with Matrix Audio SPDIF-3) with USB and I2S. Source is mostly Roon, but sometimes Qobuz connect.

PLL is set to OFF
The unlocked time is short, but annoying, and prohibits me from using the PLL=ON option

AES connection sounds more natural to me.

You answered not all my questions :upside_down_face::
Are you using in the May NOS, OS, DSD or PCM upsampling?

On my May I’ve connected (very rarely used) a CD drive in NOS and surely PLL on.
The first locking time is here (coming from DSD256 or DSD512) between 10-20 sec. After that you can stop and play again without any unlocking.
Technical wise SPDIF or AES without PLL and external upsampling (ok, here you’re very limited) is the worst option in using the May.
I prefer here in every case NOS (the internal upsampling from the May is really bad) and upsampling to DSD256 or DSD512. Also upsampling to PCM 1411/1536 is a good option, if you want more “drive forward”, but DSD sounds for me naturally at is best.

But surely it’s your decision what to do, but I can’t believe that the Rose device can’t output gapless over AES (will never try it :kissing_smiling_eyes:…).

Hi,

I use MAY in NOS mode only.

Yes, RS130 can output gapless but there is problem when you have different sampling frequency tracks on the playlist.

Sure you can upsampling to the same sampling frequency on ROSE.

Initial thought is by adding PCM delay, to allow some time for the MAY to lock without losing the first few seconds of music in a track.

But, that PCM delay doesn’t work properly from ROSE, it must use with gapless OFF.
