Can you have more than one output

I’m a new owner of the RS250 and love it so far. I’m wondering if the 250 can output for example optical out and HDMI simultaneously?

On my processor (Anthem AVM90) I can set up multiple inputs. I’d prefer for music listening to output from the optical out or the analog out. When using the video functions of course it’s HDMI. Obviously I can manually switch, but that’s an extra step. So far my observation is that when I have optical out selected it cuts out HDMI. Anyone know about this? Thanks. There’s nothing in the manual. I know my Bluesound gear can output optical and analog at the same time.

Hello,

I’m sorry but simultaneous multiple outputs are not possible now.

RS150B can output RCA and XLR at the same time.

Thanks. Good to know, but I wish it allowed it.

Hello Melm,

I also have an AVM90 and RS250. I am using the coax digital output and analog outputs. I am curious…I believe that the experience is better using the coax digital output which utilizes the AVM90 internal DAC which sounds better to me than the RS250 DAC. What are your thoughts? Is the optical better than analog in your opinion? I tried HDMI (for video and sound) and will say sound is not good (to me at least) through HDMI. I am not really interested in passing video as the RS250 screen is large enough for me to see what is playing or use the VU meters. Just a curious AVM90/RS250 user … thanks for your comments.

Hi Brian

I use it it via Optical, but wanted to try the video on my projector in the home theater. You can’t use both as I’ve just learned, which is a shame. I haven’t tried the Coax, but will. But then I can’t use the HDMI for video without a lot of switching.

Even worse news, my 4 day old RS250 has developed an odd problem of simply turning off after playing a few hours. I’m chasing that down now, but eliminated everything else except the RS250. I returned it to factory default, it runs a few hours and then loses all audio from any output, including the headphones. The VU meters show audio is playing, but Analog, HDMI, optical all have no output. I expect it is heat related as it runs for a while then goes belly up.

So when it’s resolved I’ll try coax. I’m thrilled with the AVM90. Sounds great, and very flexible.

Hi Melm,

Do you put the RS250 in standby mode or shut it off? I have had tracks not play on my unit (even when the VU meters show something is playing but no sound and the AVM90 says no signal is coming in)…however, this changes when you select a different song. I have not had physical turn off of the unit unexpectedly. I shut my unit down (not standby) when no listening to it. Not sure if any of this helps. Sorry the unit has this issue, hopefully you can figure it out.

They are going to swap it out. I talked to MoFi (the distributor) and the tech agreed there is something wrong with it. I tried every alternative, but audio keeps dropping out.

They say they haven’t seen this problem. So time for another unit.

Thanks

Mel

I would say coax output got more depth than optical output and I prefer coax due to more natural sound… This all depends on speakers since if you use B&W 800 series you can hear the midrange differences…

Another Anthem AVM90 and RS250 here. I use the hdmi out for the video out and the analogs for the music itself. The anthem let’s you setup virtual inputs that can Handle both.

If you use digital outs you pass the Rose”s DAC. You may or may not want to do that.

Yes, but you can’t run them both so if you make a change you have to change the output settings. That would be easy with a Harmony Remote but the Rose uses Bluetooth so it won’t work with the Harmony…
