Firmware Upgrade for 8 TB SSD

Hello Engineers of ROSE

would it be possible to provide a firmware upgrade so that 8 TB SSD can be used with ROSE audio player like RS520?

If not officially perhaps such an upgrade can be provided for individual download and installation?

thank you for your consideration.

Have you tried a 8TB drive in the RS520 ?
What error do you get?

Over four years ago: What is the file format of an internal SSD Rose RS250 - #8 by burki

Ok…
Did a quick look at the thread.
Seems like there’s a link to a firmware upgrade… so it would already be in the OS.

Not sure what the problem would be.
This is why I am asking @Ben what isn’t working?
What did he do?

No, has nothing to do with a firmware upgrade, but Hifi Rose had not tested 8 TB SSDs. Nethertheless some users (like me) have done it with success.
But filling a larger SSD through the network tooks a lot of time and it’s better to fill it outside the rose device.

No i have not because they cost to much even 2nd hand to try.

There is no support and the 8TB SSD cost to much even used to try by trial & error.
I looked for used ones from Samsung but they are not really cheap yet.

Some listeners here had issues waking up from standby and not recognizing the 8TB in all functions of the audio device.

Ok, so what’s the issue with your initial request?

I would imagine that it would work.
But that would mean a ton of music to fill even 4TB. (Including artwork.)

If you had that much music… your catalog and indexing becomes a bit of a hassle.
You’d be better off w a dedicated media device. Not just music but videos too.

I thought about that too but i prefer an internal SSD to an external disc.
The issue that i have is that there should be a 8TB SSD driver available as an option for those who need one.

So this goes back to the original issue… what makes you think that you can’t pop in an 8TB drive and it won’t work?

Again, I think you’ll start to see limitations on indexing and what not when you go that large.

The cost of buying one. I checked yesterday for used from Samsung and they cost like 600€ . This is why i want to be sure they work/compatible with the RS520 device. Inserting and recognising the capacity by the OS is one step.
