Is there a balance control?

Dumb question. I haven’t been able to find a balance control on my RS520. Did I miss it or isn’t there one? Surely that can’t be the case but I’ve seen prior posts asking for one.

If there isn’t a balance control, how do you adjust the output to compensate for room acoustics?

@StandardModel

Currently, the RS520 does no have a dedicated balance control feature in its software.
We understand that some users would like this functionality, and we have received similar feedback from other customers.

In the meantime, if you need to compensate for room acoustics or speaker placement, we recommend adjusting the balance directly on your amplifier (if applicable) or using external tools such as room correction software, equalizers, or your speaker’s individual settings.

Rosehan,

I don’t understand your answer. The RS520’s amplifiers are internal. Is there some way to adjust them? Because the amplifiers are internal in the RS520 my speakers are not active but passive. they have no individual settings.

StandardModel

@StandardModel

You are correct — since the RS520 has built-in amplifiers and uses passive speakers, there is no separate balance control available at this time.
The RS520’s internal amplification does not provide an independent left/right balance adjustment through software.

We understand that this can be inconvenient for room acoustics adjustments, and we have forwarded your feedback to our development team as a feature request for a future firmware update.

Currently, as a workaround, you may consider:

-Adjusting speaker placement or toe-in to balance the sound field.
-Using room acoustic treatments (if possible).
-Applying external digital signal processing (DSP) before the signal reaches the RS520 (e.g., via a streaming source or a preamp with DSP features).

Rosehan,

Thank you for your response. it really seems odd to have omitted this control but it is what it is. I’ll figure out a workaround. At least there are many, many good features to the RS 520. It has great sound.

@StandardModel
What are you using for your source?

For example… if you’re streaming from your PC then you could potentially set the balance there and it should be reflected in the RS520.

Smegel,

Good suggestion but I’m using the internet streaming services in HiFi Rose, hence no ability to change relative input levels for left and right channels.

StandardModel

Yeah…

I would think that if Rose has the ability to turn on / off the volume control. (Software volume control) Then they could add in balance as a feature. ( Basically volume control per channel )

@ROSEHAN you may want to experiment with this…

Smegel,

Yes, of course they could do it. A 50 euro amplifier has a balance control. When I bought my RS 520 I didn’t even ask if it had a balance control. Silly me, I would think that it was a given. It’s like buying a Lexus and being told you don’t have windshield wipers because you only need them when it rains and besides you can stop the car and wipe off the windscreen with a rag.

Not every system has a balance control.
I had to think about this… my Arcam Solo Uno doesn’t have one either.
And to be honest… I can’t remember the last time I’ve every used it on anything that could have had it.

You’d think it would be a more valuable feature… but until you raised the issue… I hadn’t thought about it.

I’ve been pushing to get a balance control myself. No luck so far. Here’s a link to my request:

KHoward,

I feel the same way. I have tinnitus in one ear. Hence my request.

StandardModel

Only in one ear? (I’ve got a bit in both… )

I get it.
In addition of asking for balance… why not ask for a mono option?

I mean its a serious request.
A Use Case would be if you were hooking this up via HDMI to your TV and you were listening to a news program or a talk show.
(Or is this just me?)

Totally agree, I have a treated, symmetrical, rectangular room but my right channel is not as loud as the left. I have made a bit of difference to compensate with a little bit of toe in and moving my right channel speaker a little closer. I do all my measurements with a laser from mlp and @ROSEHAN of course is correct but it would be great to do it with a software update if possible @ROSEHAN. Thanks!

On the RS201 there is a Balance Control (It’s a little bit hidden):

  1. Goto In/Out Setting > Choose Preamp / Amp out.
  2. On the upper left corner click the gear symbol
  3. By choosing the last topic in the list is the balance control:

Hi @Esgehtso!

The RS520 doesn’t have these options.

What is interesting is that the feature was/is part of the 201E OS but has been removed in the RS520.
So its something I suspect could be put back in…

@ROSEHAN is there a reason why this feature was omitted (removed) in the RS520? THX.

Hello,

The Balance Settings feature is only available on the RS201 and has never been included in any other streamers. I appreciate your understanding that I cannot give a definite answer regarding the possibility of adding it in a future update.

Thanks,
I’d say put it on the wish list of features.

Along w better BT/Wi-fi options in terms of updated dongles.
Since its an external dongle, it would mean adding the necessary drivers to your Android OS. So you could go separates, or a later model w better BT and now wi-fi 6 or 7.

Again this is a wish list of new/updated features.

Thx.
