Rose + Tidal Hi-res + buffering issue

The Streamer is 2 months old and from the very beginning had problems with the cable connection to the internet, it connects but does not play any song or video, you have to remove the cable several times until it finally manages to play something, then it works relatively ok until I remove the cable again and everything starts all over again.
Files up to 3000 kbps it plays ok, what is over that stops loading every 10 seconds or so, I tried everything I could but I think the device has a problem with the network card. Can you please tell me who is in charge of repairs in Germany? Thank you very mutch

@Radu

Here are a few things to check:

  1. Does the same symptom occur when you connect your Rose device to Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet?
  2. Does the same symptom occur when you use apps that require other networks, such as radio or Qobuz, other than Tidal?
  3. Does the same symptom occur when you log out of your Tidal account and log back in?
  4. Does the same symptom occur when you replace the Ethernet cable with a different cable?
  5. Does the same symptom occur when you factory reset your Rose device?
    Rose device–>Settings–>System settings–>Factory reset

You can check the distributor in the country where you purchased your Rose device by accessing the link below.

Hi,

I would suggest trying to play something from Apple Music (this streaming service has the highest network priority). If Apple Music is playing fine but Tidal is not the most probable issue is the Internet provider.quality service.

Have a nice day,
Tomasz

Hello, it is not the Internet connection because i have two of them and all other device are work properly for exemple HD TV . Thank you for your help

Hello, at the beginning the Wifi connection worked correctly only the Ethernet connection was not working properly. Last time I tried wifi it didn’t work properly, anyway I’m not interested in wifi because it sounds much worse than Ethernet.
The symptoms generally occur on Tidal, the rest I can’t figure out the transfer rate but they don’t work great either.
I’ve tried Factory Reset and numerous times to reinstall the Tidal app unfortunately to no effect.
I have several Ethernet cables from cheap to very expensive all do the same.
I repeat myself the problem occurs when I remove the Ethernet cable and plug it back in or when I turn the device completely off (not stand by).
Thank you for your help

Hello, that is the point. HD TV and Apple Music have the highest transfer priority, but Tidal does not. In the case of a low-quality service provider, HD TV and Apple Music are working fine, but Tidal is not. If you can play Apple Music on Rose via Ethernet connection, that would be proof.

Sincerely,
Tomasz

Ok, than why when i play the same file on my phone using the Rose app it’s work properly and on the hifi rose streamer doesn’t work? It’s the same internet connection.

In my case, I could play Tidal from PC but not from Rose. The grey buffer bar (on Master files) was only 1-2mm long on the screen. After changing the Internet service provider, it is 10 mm long or more. The Apple Music played with no issues.

Of course, your situation could be different.

I have already change the internet provider, now i have a high speed cable internet connection but no changes. Maybe i will buy a cheap streamer only to try if it works, but im definitely sure that it will work very well.

Hello again,
I have try it with Qobuz and ist seems it works properly till now, i don’t understand why it doesn’t work on Tidal?

Hello,

Caching & Streaming Technology
• Tidal often uses chunked adaptive streaming (HLS/DASH) with buffering techniques.
• Qobuz typically downloads full tracks or large parts ahead of time (especially in FLAC formats), which can reduce real-time streaming sensitivity to latency or jitter.

This means Tidal may behave slightly more like a real-time stream, while Qobuz behaves more like a file download, but again — this doesn’t imply packet-level priority, just different buffering and delivery strategies.ā€

Still in my opinion it looks like the Internet provider issue.

Thank you very much for your reply, i’m happy he works at least with Qobuz. If i will change sometime the internet provider i will check again with Tidal, with Apple music i didn’t try it.

For what it’s worth – I had similar issues with an ISP i worked with, using fibre connection. I was in touch with their tech support, gave them the exact times when i had buffering issues an they monitored their network to identify what kind of QoS policies and routing policies they needed to put in place and they resolved it.
I am not sure whether Rose 150 talks directly to Tidal servers or whether it routes the connection through Rose servers somehow, i didn’t check it either but i suspected that it’s not working like a standard Tidal client.

Sorry, I’ve been out of touch for a while. With my RS150b I was getting what appear to be buffering issues no matter what service I was using with a hardwired ethernet connection. I tried multiple patch cables, even swapping the one from the Eversolo DMP-A6 ME with the one in the RS150b, the Eversolo continued to work just fine but the RS150b still had buffering issues, both pull to the same switch and are in the same rack. This was happening with Tidal via Roon server, Tidal directly, Radio Paradise via RoonRadio, even local flac files from my Roon server or streamed directly from my QNAP NAS, all of my network switches connect via 10GbE to my 10GbE backbone. I tried two different ISPs, went from 500Mb copper to 5Gb fiber connection with another ISP and then reduced that down to 2Gb fiber (both fiber are way overkill). No matter what I tried, there appeared to be buffering issues, UNLESS I used wifi instead with the RS150b. The wifi WAP that the RS150b is connected to is in the same room and is the same switch that I had the RS150b hardwired into, and the WAP is hardwired into that switch and backhauls to the master WAP before going on out through the firewall to the router and then to the ISP. Using wifi adds one extra hop in the network path over the hardwired route. As long as I power off and unplug the RS150b, remove the ethernet cable and then start it back up and connect via wifi, everything works just fine no buffering issues. It has been running over wifi just fine since I first posted in this thread, I have not retried the wired connection since wifi is working now.

For testing I ran an 80 foot Cat6a cable from the living room switch, which the RS520 is patched into, down the hallway to where the RS150b sits and patched the RS150b to the living room switch. While playing the same music, the RS520 plays just fine, but the RS150b craps out or starts stuttering. I then put the RS150b back into the switch in the listening room and used the 80 foot cable to patch the RS520 into that same listening room switch. I had the same results, the RS520 is just fine, but the RS150b craps out. Once the RS150b displays the buffering issue, it starts happening more frequently (as always). I power off and unplug the power cord from the ethernet switch and power the RS150b back on, using wifi for the network connection, and everything works just fine. Both the RS150b (through the WAP patched into the listening room switch) and the RS520 physically cabled into that same listening room switch via the 80 foot patch cable both work properly. I had changed QoS on my firewall to give all HiFi Rose devices top priority, even changed from an Untangle firewall to an OPNsense firewall during the troubleshooting. It just seems as if the RS150b has an issue with its buffer when using a hardwired ethernet connection. From what I have read here and elsewhere, I don’t think that I am the only person who experiences this.
