5.7 update problem - The AirPlay device "ROSE -00" is not compatible with this version of iTunes

I have just updated my RS201 to the 5.7 update and lost my connection with iTunes on my computer.

I get a message saying that “The AirPlay device “ROSE-00” is not compatible with this version of iTunes”.

I am on Windows 10 using the latest version of iTunes (iTunes Version 12.13.4.4).

I tried the Early Access update and have the same problem. Previously I was on Rose version 4.??. Can you roll me back to the version I had before the 5.7 update? I only use iTunes to stream my music collection and now this update makes my Rose useless.

I had the same problem when I updated in October. On October I asked if there were any plans to allow iTunes to connect in the future. At that time they said there were no plans. It was my most frequent use of my RS250A. Very disappointing.

Thanks for the input. Did you try changing to Apple Music? I am scared to do this as it might not solve the problem and also mess up my library, ratings and playlists

Sort of. I am running iTunes on Windows and I’ve heard some horror stories regarding Apple Music on Windows. But what I did try was sharing my iTunes library with Apple Music on my iPhone. You need to turn on sharing in iTunes with your iPhone account info. Sharing does not actually store your complete iTunes collection on the iPhone (not enough room). It copies your iTunes .xml files onto your phone. For my iTunes library (20K songs) this takes about 3-4 minutes. Then the iPhone knows where everything is. When you play a song (or a Playlist) it moves one song at a time over to the phone and plays it. In my case, it worked great with the HiFi-Rose.

On February 23, 2025, Apple released a new version of iTunes for Windows: 12.13.5.3. The upgrade stated that the new version “adds working with additional devices.” I tried to connect with my RS250A and got the same as before - The AirPlay device “ROSE-05” is not compatible with this version of iTunes. I own 5 AirPlay devices. The RS250A is the only device I own that won’t connect. Come on people, fix this.

Hey Charlie, thank you for continuing the fight on this. I completely gave up and stopped using my Rose device ever since. This makes no sense to me and I have lost faith in the Rose team to fix this. I wish there was a way to roll back to the previous version of Rose software that worked correctly. Shame on me for updating.

Thanks for the encouragement Matt. The fact that Apple just updated iTunes for Windows, coupled with the mostly horrible reviews of Apple Music on Windows, suggests iTunes will be around for some time on the Windows platform. Based on the number of devices I see advertised with “AirPlay” in their descriptions, it makes no sense that HiFi Rose doesn’t take advantage of an easy (low hanging fruit) option to implement.

I have no problem to airplay with my rs-250a (plexamp on ipad)

According to HiFi Rose, this is a problem with iTunes on Windows. If I move some of my iTunes library over to my ipad (not enough storage for everything) AirPlay works fine with Apple Music. All my other AirPlay devices have no problem with iTunes on Windows. My RS250A does not work with iTunes on Windows.
