Add "Decades" as a music Genre Selection

Please consider adding “Decades” as a music “Genre” category

for the various services like Qobuz, Tidal and Apple, etc.
It’s possible that the category “Retro” was intended to include music from past decades but it doesn’t really seem that this is correct given the media in the category.
Given the estimated average age of the HiFi Rose users, it’s my bet that this category would be vastly more likely to be chosen than “Hip Hop” if you’re limiting the total number of categories.

These are the standard/default genres for ID3 tags and all audio software should understand them.

Retro and Decades are not genres yet they can be a function of audio player software if the music files are properly tagged with date information. Then the audio player can create groups like you wish…

Yet genres can be freely added if you want to. they are saved on the music files with a tagger but other audio software can not properly read them.

Ben,
thanks for your input. OK, I’m asking that ID3v1 category 11 Oldies be added as well as category 1 Classic Rock and category 95 Slow Rock. the reason I asked for Decades is that it’s on Roon.

My windows desktop audio player creates groups out of date information and shows them as a listing ‘years’ then ‘decades’ which the ROSE can not.

Again, you can simply fill in any words into the genre field and later use that.

Ben,

Just for fun I purchased a Wiim streamer. It analyzed my music collection, categorized all the tracks, filled in the albums and all missing fields.
All for less than the VAT on a HiFi Rose.

But with less sound quality… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Ben,

It is surprisingly good if I use it only as a streamer and my RD160 as the DAC.

With exactly the same quality.
FTFY.
