Hello. I bought a 4T SSD to install it in my RS130.
I have 3T of music in a USB external HD. Can I format the 4T SSD in Exfat and transfer my 3T files inside it before doing the installation in the RS130 ? Will it work or I have to follow the instructions on p 29-30 of the owners manual to do formatting and file transfer ? Thanks
It will not work, I have tried. The 130 has to format the SSD, then you transfer the music over the network or using an external SSD.
Try to format with ntfs and not exFat.
But for being save, you should install the SSD at first in the RS130, let format it there and then put it to your PC.
It does not matter whether you format the SSD on your PC or directly on the RS130.
You may use NTFS, exFAT, or FAT32 as the formatting type.
In your case, the most convenient method would be to format the 4TB SSD on your PC first, copy the 3TB music library from your USB HDD to the SSD, and then install/connect the SSD to the RS130.
I will try Rosehan recommandation with one file transfer to look if it works.
When formatting the SSD with the RS130 which type of format it use ?
Thanks
Before I sold my RS130 I removed the 4TB Samsung 870 EVO that I purchased for use as the internal SSD. Neither my Mac nor my PC can read it now. So I do not know how it was formatted by the Rose. I can tell you that I first formatted it in exFAT using my Mac, transferred my music files to it, installed it into the Rose. It was not recognized by the Rose. I got it to work by allowing the Rose to format it and transferring my music files to it using an external SSD connected via USB using the File Manager app on the Rose.
I plan to reformat this Samsung SSD now and repurpose it as storage. Storage prices have gone through the roof so I am loathe to purchase more at this time.
Good luck and happy listening legarem.
It was exactly the same for me.
SSD installed in the 520 and formatted with Rose520. I transferred everything using the slow SMB1 protocol. I must have done this at least ten times, and—by today’s standards—the amount of time it consumed was enormous. Then I decided to switch to Roon, and that painfully slow transfer process became a thing of the past; since I no longer needed to transfer any files, Roon simply reads the data directly from my SSD and streams it to the endpoint.
However, in fairness, I must point out that my secondary device—the 3400—is also unable to play music stored on an external hard drive formatted with exFAT.
