“Age restriction” in rose tube

I’m trying to view some YouTube content in rose tube, which is blocked due to under 18 age restriction.

How do I tell Rose tube that I am an adult viewer?

Thank you

Wow.
Kinda funny if you think about it.
Did you log into your YT account which would verify your age?

@taystnotes
Age verification is not required separately in Rose Tube,
but if you provide information on the problematic content, we will check it for you

RoseTube age restriction policy is not clear. I go to my YouTube account, specify my age, and the TV player plays everything I want, but RoseTube has its own rules. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdz0jPMC40vE&si=LpuL7fkUX9qS_moP

But did you link the two accounts?

Yes, I go under the same youtube account on my TV player and youtube on RoseTube.

Hmmm.

I’ve never had this issue.
But then again, I don’t know that I’ve asked Rose to play something that could be age restricted.

Do you have an example that I could try?

There’s a link to a couple of messages above. Doesn’t it open?

Got it.

Yeah… Ok

Got it.

There appears to be no way to adjust this in RoseTube.
I tried the song via Rose Tube.
Then tried to access it via YouTube thru Rose and it wouldn’t let me play it.
Even though on YT it would show the age restriction button which I could press.

Don’t know that I’d say it was a ‘bug’ per se.
But there has to be a way to set the preference to allow to accept age restricted content.
(Which you can do on YT where you get the button and you can hit OK)

I’d say that it would have to be something where if you hit age restricted material… on Rose One, you could hit a button and bypass it. Or on the remote.

HOWEVER… I don’t see where Rose gives you that option. I mean when you set up the Rose you’d have to flag it to allow access to age restricted… or if you log into YT via Rose, you get to inherit that setting.

This may not be an easy problem to solve. :frowning:

But if you use your PC, and then connect via USB… you can still watch the videos … just not the same.

The problem with RoseTube and the age restrictions (YouTube API)

Subject: The truth about RoseTube age restrictions / YouTube API issues and European Regulations

Hi everyone,

Since there are constantly complaints and questions in the forum after every new update about why certain YouTube videos on RoseTube suddenly won’t open or throw age-restriction errors: The problem is most likely NOT a bug in the latest HiFi Rose firmware. It is highly probable that this is a direct result of the strict European regulations on youth protection (like the Audiovisual Media Services Directive and the Digital Services Act).

Here is what is happening behind the scenes, and why especially users outside of Europe (like in the US) might not understand what’s going on:

  1. The YouTube / Google API Lockdown:
YouTube (Google) has radically tightened its security measures for third-party applications (which RoseTube legally is). If a music video or concert is flagged as “explicit”, “18+”, or “age-restricted” by YouTube’s system, Google’s API strictly prohibits embedding or streaming this content to external, third-party apps.
  2. The Verification Trap:
Google demands that the user is directly logged into an official Google/YouTube app or browser where their age has been verified (often via credit card or ID in the EU). A HiFi streamer cannot easily pass this official Google verification protocol in the background via its custom API implementation. As a result, Google simply blocks the stream, and RoseTube shows an error.
  3. Why it’s getting worse:
The EU is heavily fining tech giants if they fail to protect minors. To protect themselves, Google is automatically tagging way more videos with age restrictions than a few years ago. If you want to watch these videos, Google forces you onto their own platforms.

@Bonte
Dude!

The issue isn’t that Rose has to deal w Age Restrictions… but that they don’t give you an option to either confirm your age or allow you to bypass the age restrictions.

With YT, Google knows who I am and my age. Yet when age restrictioned material pops up… I get a warning bar/button that I can push to say that I’m old enough and want to hear it / see it.

With Rose… no such bypass exists. This is a gap that they need to address, however… I don’t think its going to be a simple one. Easier to not bypass it and let you use another way to hear explicit lyrics.

 Are you talking to yourself? Yeah Mikey you’re getting old, “Dude”

@Bonte Thank you for the background on this (I’m in the US).
Yeah, I was surprised about this as I thought the linked account would have ultimately allowed me to watch what I want (as an adult), but the third party restriction explains it now.

I always seem to find the odd bugs in Rose and MOST do get fixed once surfaced to this community.
Onward!
Thanks again and have a great rest of your week.
