Alternative dongles for Wi-Fi / BT for RS520

Hi,
I saw in an earlier thread that Rose supports two wifi/bt dongles that are made and sold in Korea.

I understand that Rose has their own proprietary version of Android OS, but since the dongle is USB and not built in, I was wondering what drivers are being used. I suspect that it would be possible to use a similar USB dongle as long as they were recognized by the OS. (This would depend on their required drivers. )

At the same time… would it be possible to have two separate dongles? One for BT and one for WiFi?
Assuming that the existing drivers would recognize the hardware.

Could you please provide any insight?
The benefit is that we could upgrade our BT / WiFi by merely replacing the dongle.

One pet peeve is that the BT that ships w the RS520 is 4.2 and the dongle w the large antenna only rotates 180 degrees in one direction. Would love to replace it with a BT 5.x/wi-fi combination. or two separate dongles.

@Smegel

We currently have tested the following dongles for Rose devices and they are compatible.

  1. NEXT 531WBT from Easynet Ubiquitous
  2. NEXT 1265WBTA from Easynet Ubiquitous

Please let us know the model name of the BT/WiFi dongle you are planning to use, and we will determine internally whether it is compatible with Rose devices or not and let you know.

Good morning! Thanks for the fast reply.

I haven’t purchased anything yet. The NEXT devices appear to be local to the Korean market.
I was thinking of trying a BT dongle or a Wi-Fi dongle to see if its recognized. Not sure which brand.
I guess it would be easier to know the device driver you embed but I guess that you want to keep that proprietary.

I think it would be a great idea if you were to work with HiFi Rose USA and let them experiment w you because being able to recommend different options that are available in the local market would be huge!

Thanks Again.

Just to update this…

I did a quick test to verify something.
It looks like in your Android release you use specific wi-fi / bt drivers and not generic device drivers.

The advantage is that you can upgrade your BT/Wi-FI with a simple software upgrade and the dongle unit. Or potentially split the two features into two USB dongles. One for wi-fi, one for BT. Then you have wi-fi 6 or BT 5.3 or beyond (plus the software updates.)

I’ll try to follow up w MOFI Distribution when I get back to Chicago.

Please don’t misunderstand … I think this is just something you could take advantage of …

Thx

Contact MoFi.
They will be able to help you with your problem.

Hi,
Its not so much an issue since I could by the alternate dongle without the antenna and get BT 5.0.

Just suggesting that this could be an area for easy upgrades and improvements.
