Best Output for RS250A

I have recently purchased a RS250a streamer. I Want to connect it to my surround sound cinema amp.

I have installed a 4tb hard drive to store my music files. Some of my music files are 24- 192.

Should i connect my HIFi Rose to the amp via the analogue, Coax out, Opt Out or HDMI for the best sound ?

Generally speaking, the DAC in 250 is probably better than the one in AVR. If your AVR has some kind of “pure direct” analog mode than using analog outputs will give you the most “pristine” untouched sound.

If your AVR digitizes all analog inputs, then the quality of DACs in 250 obviously does not matter, just use the easiest connection. Probably HDMI so you can watch those Rosetube videos while you’re at it using a single connection…

If the AVR has a good room/speaker correction function, might be worthwhile trying that (using digital input) and seeing if you like the sound better that way.

Boris,

Thanks for the reply - I am using a high quality AVR Receiver (Arcam A31) which has DIRAC live room correction. I do not intend to use the HIFi Rose for videos just pure music. - My AVR is set to direct analogue so i should be using the DAC in the Rose.

However i will try using the HDMI utilising the DIRAC correction function

You’re welcome!

Arcam has quite good DACs but is limited to 192/24 (not that anything above that were audibly different, but still). Most likely you will get the best result using either HDMI or a coax S/PDIF and letting Dirac do its job (if you use Roon, it should be Roon ready, too).

Might as well connect the analog as well for when you want to listen to some DSD512 or 768/32 source “as-is” even if it is more for emotional satisfaction than any audible difference
