Bluetooth Remote cannot pair w/150

I have been struggling for weeks trying to pair my 150 with its remote again, but without success. It was paired up till a month ago (which pleased me, given Bluetooth’s reputation for unreliability), but then my 150 suddenly stopped responding to the remote, even though I had not changed anything (not even the remote’s batteries, which are still fully charged), and the Bluetooth settings screen still showed the remote as if were paired. I am going to refer to Bluetooth as “BT” for the rest of this post.

Knowing how unreliable BT is, I assumed the remote just needed to be paired to the 150 again. So I followed all of Rose’s steps to pair it, but it would not pair. I then tried the solutions mentioned in other posts from people who have also struggled with the BT remote; e.g., I deleted the remote from the 150’s BT’s settings screen, I removed the BT dongle, then powered down the 150, unplugged the the power cord, waited 5 minutes, plugged the cord back in, reconnected the BT dongle, turned the 150 on then and repeated Rose’s pairing process. But the 150 still would not pair with the remote.

So I then emailed Rose, who had me repeat everything, which still did not work. By that time, I felt the problem was likely due to something Rose had changed in the 150’s software, but Rose wanted me to just exchange my remote for a new one.

Yesterday I drove 2 hours to my dealer and exchanged my 150’s remote for a new one. But my 150 STILL will not pair with the remote. So I told my dealer about this, that I suspected the problem was due to the 150’s software, and asked him to try pairing a remote with the store’s 150. He tried, but the remote would not pair. He also tried pairing his 150 with my old remote - same result, nothing worked.

I and my dealer have followed Rose’s pairing steps, including pressing two buttons on the remote until its light glows solid red, then touching the middle icon on the right in the BT settings screen (the one that looks like a sliding switch) so its color changes from grey to gold, but nothing happened. We have both also tried pressing the same steps, plus then pressing the icon on the left (the icon that looks like a combo of a BT symbol and a magnifying lens, guessing that icon tells the 150 to search for a BT device) (we had to guess that is what that icon does, because Rose refuses to share a table of the 150’s many icons explaining what each is for as I have requested numerous times). Neither method worked.

I have now spent DAYS on his problem. Rose, please check your 150s to see if you can pair them. If so, please tell me how to pair mine. If anyone else has this problem, please let Rose know.

Thank you.

I only just figured out how to log in. My next challenge is the remote (the app works fine). I’ll let you know.

I have the same issue. Please HIFI Rose, respond to us.

Hello @Pesto_Sauce and @TerryM ,

I’m apologize about the bluetooth list issue.

Would you check the message?

Best Regards,

I received your email that you now are guessing my BT dongle is bad. That’s interesting since my dealer, Excel Audio in Newport Beach, California US, discovered his 150 display unit has the same exact problem when he checked it (he never checked it before because most of his customers just use their cell phones or tablets, not the BT remote). Odd coincidence that. Did you check your 150s to see if they have that problem too as I had requested?

Hello,

That’s really weird… I’ve just tested with RS150B here and it works. I’m sure a lot of people are using BT remote, not just the ROSE APP. If all users had BT remote issue, many posts related to the remote control issue have already been posted in this community, just like when iOS Rose APP didn’t work.
It would be good if I can check your RS150B at your place, but realistically, this is impossible.
We are preparing IR receiver that can be connected to USB port of RS150B, so I’d like to ask for understanding until the end of the test.

Best Regards,

Thank you for responding. Very appreciated. I find it amazing that two 150’s in California have an identical problem which you believe is caused by bad Bluetooth dongles (though with Bluetooth’s well deserved reputation for unreliability, that certainly is possible).

So how do I get my remote working again? Am I just suppose to wait for you to finish developing your new USB IR receiver? If so, will I then be sent an IR receiver and an IR remote control? Or are you going to contact my dealer to tell him to exchange my old BT dongle for a new one? Either way, I need this problem fixed soon.

Thank you.

Hello,

I’m checking how long it would take to test the IR receiver, I may be able to judge what would be better for you after checking. It won’ take that long.

Best Regards,

I just posted this in a related thread.
I don’t know if this will help but… I set up the 150b about 12 feet away directly in front of my sitting position on a media console. The remote worked. I moved the 150b to a stereo stand beside the sofa and lower than my sitting position. The remote was no longer working. The stereo stand has open front and sides with some part of the back partly enclosed. The remote will work if I reach over and point it directly down at the dongle area (about a foot away). It is either very directional or something is blocking the signal. Will it work if you point the remote at the dongle with no obstructions between the remote and back of the 150b?

I have posted this same issue with the included cheap plastic remote. This is a terribly cheaply made device that clearly was not QA tested before release. Even Amazon Fire TV remote and Apple TV remotes are of significantly higher quality and actually work and you don’t have to go through all these time wasting set up configurations and holding it a foot away for it to work and random disconnect issues. I have been extremely displeased with this device and for $5000 high end streamer device to have not addressed this or replaced every remote on every unit sold is appalling response from Rose. I do not want to have to spend another $800 on an ipad just to have a remote control that works when there should have been a quality durable (not cheap plastic) functional remote control included with a hifi device of this caliber. It detracts from what should have been a wonderful unit. It is the one thing that creates buyers remorse for a $5000 investment. This should be made right by this company if it wants to save face, but since I posted my original issue on this, and spent hours and hours troubleshooting this trying to make it work. I have given up on hoping this company will make it right or issue a $250 refund to every customer for this remote not working. This is a hopeless ask I know. But I am not seeing Hifi Rose doing a single thing about my original post on this, or on this more current post.

Thx for sharing. I agree the 150’sremote is junk. But as the head of R&D at a huge electronics group (can’t give his name because of a NDA in effect) told me, most Bluetooth devices are unreliable (notable exception - Roku, but it took years for them to get it right).

In addition to being frustrated that nothing I have tried works (uploading music files to a SSD, the cheap BT remote, even getting Qobuz to work), my real frustrations:
(A) Seems that everything, even the most basic things (like just playing all the song in an album) is much more complicated than needed (playing an entire album should be simple),
(B) Rose’s manuals omit so much important information, even on basic functions (I think they just assume we will figure it all out, eventually),
(C) Rose refuses to post any of that missing info in the FAQ section (what Rose calls “QNA” Questions aNd Answers) of this site,
(D) all Rose customers, dealers & distributors put up with this. My distributor (U.S.) is Mobile Fidelity, a company renown for always being upfront & honest with its customers. But even they won’t respond to messages about these issues (including how to fix the darn remote).

Thx. My remote worked fine, until recently. My theory is it the problem is with the 150. Probably something some software update screwed up something (it is Android after all).

Hello
As I normally use the app to control the Rose150… I only remember the remote control when for some reason I run out of Wi-Fi.
And then the user experience is very unsatisfactory.
Once you have turned a few beads to match it, well, that’s it.
but when you want to use it… I can almost say that it does what it wants.
If I press the key to go through a menu of records, I press it, I press it… and then it goes on by itself until when it feels like it.
If I turn the volume up a couple of times…and then it continues to go up to the maximum. and I’ve already had a couple of scares with the volume, and I had to get up from the sofa in a hurry to turn off the power amplifier directly.
Something is wrong with the bluetooth remote control…
I miss a remote control like the usual infrared ones…
