Cables for HiFi Rose RS130

Hello. I have a HiFi Rose RS130. I want to do 2 things:

  1. Play the RoseTube from my streamer to my tv
  2. Play YouTube from my tv to my DAC

Does anyone have expertise on cables? I’m going to need a 20 to 25’ cable going either direction.

My understanding is that HDMI cables (this would go from RS130 out to tv in) can be a problem at greater lengths.

Also, would an optical cable be okay at that length going from tv out to DAC in?

Thank you

No personal experience but one of these should work for even longer distances.

RS130 does not appear to have (e)ARC input though (pricing and positioning of that thing is really beyond comprehension) but TOSLINK theoretically can work for up to 33 feet.

I’m using with a RS451 this 25 feets optical hdmi cable: https://amzn.eu/d/0cKt7w7J

Surely it depends also on the screen resolution (I’m on 4K)…

The RS 151 has an eARC input, the RS 130 doesn’t, because they probably assumed it was a drive, so perhaps a DAC purchased separately will have this input. I have one in the RS 151, but I don’t use it.

To help you with your search.
For my video projector, I use a 10-meter HDMI cable and haven’t had any problems.

@easola01

We have confirmed that HDMI cables longer than 5 meters can work without issues. However, we generally recommend that users use shorter HDMI cables whenever possible.

Please also note that the RS130 does not support HDMI eARC input.

If you require eARC input support, please consider products such as the RS151 or RS150B, which do support HDMI eARC input.

Thank you. Are you saying I shouldn’t connect my RS130 HDMI output to the eArc input of the TV to play RoseTube?

Also, I’m getting an optical 8k HDMI 25’ cable to connect between the RS130 and my 4k tv. Does it help that it’s optical at 25’ long?

Thank you very much.

Since you are getting a cable specifically designed to work over long distances, not just a too-long HDMI cable, it should work well.

You can absolutely connect it to your 130’s HDMI output. What @ROSEHAN is saying is that since 130 does not support ARC, if you are playing something on the TV itself, you can’t route it back to 130 over that HDMI cable. It will be for (video) output only.

I see. Okay I will plug the RS130 into a standard HDMI in the tv rather than the eArc. Thanks

If you have any kind of surround processor in this setup, yeah, you are much better of connecting the AV processor to the ARC port. If it is only Rose, it doesn’t really matter.

@easola01

Because the RS130 does not support ARC/eARC functionality, audio played directly from the TV cannot be sent back to the RS130 through the HDMI connection.

In other words, the HDMI connection on the RS130 is for video output only.

Yes I understand that. I purchased a 25’ optical and directional HDMI cable to go from the RS130 to the tv. I am interested in playing RoseTube from my streamer onto my smart tv.

I was just wondering if I should hook it up to a regular HDMI on the TV or the eArc. Given what you indicate I suppose it would be the regular HDMI…no advantage to the eArc port

@easola01

Yes, you can simply connect it to a regular HDMI port on your TV.

What @ROSEHAN said. If you have an AV processor of some sort in this setup, you should connect (e)ARC to that. If you don’t have anything that takes ARC, it won’t really make any difference now, but might as well use a regular HDMI port in case you upgrade later.
