Can I play Music from external SSHD?

I have read many posts, and the answers are unclear. I am about to purchase an external 1GB Solid-State HD. My question is simple:

Can I connect this external HD to my RS150B, and will the 150B recognize it and allow me to search and play music from this drive?

  • Specific drive is 1GB Samsung T7 Shield.
  • I have 500GB of music I will place on the SSHD.
  • The music is in FLAC format.
  • This is all that is on the HD.
  • HD is formatted as exFAT.

Bonus questions:

  1. Does it matter what format is used to format the HD?
  2. How robust will the search be? By artist, by album, by song?? Any tips for organizing the music?

@gemoody

We are here to answer your questions.

First of all, when connecting a USB external hard drive to RS150b, it supports up to 10TB external hard drive.

In most cases, external HDDs are recommended to be formatted in NTFS or exFAT format.

Lastly, if you use the media library function, you can use the search function.
After connecting the external storage, go to Music->Settings->Media Library on the main unit to check the list of connected storages. Here, select the desired storage name and ‘Add DB’.

Hello Gema!

I don’t know if a 1TB external solid state drive will work well. Yes, I can tell you, that on my Hifi Rose RS250A, I have a 4-tera USB hard drive formatted in NTFS and connected to the USB 3.0 of the RS250A, and everything works wonderfully.

Hi @JMBARG & @ROSEHAN,

He asked specifically for !!!SSHD!!!

Solid-state hybrid drives (SSHDs) work by using a small amount of solid-state storage as a cache for frequently accessed data. When data is requested from an SSHD, the drive’s firmware first checks the cache to see if the requested data is stored there.

:wink:If you can read, you have a clear advantage!

Hello @JMBARG,

I was only kidding…you probably saw that on .

You did everything right.

He also asked for specifications and you gave him answers. :+1:t2:

Everything’s fine, big boy, and stay the way you are…above all, stay healthy.

Thanks all. If I were to change the file type to Apple Lossless, would the 150B recognize the music and metadata from the HD? …in this case, would the extension .m4a or .caf matter?

Hi @gemoody,

Due to Apple’s FairPlay DRM, you can only play the downloaded Apple Music songs on Apple’s authorized devices.

Music from an Apple Music subscription is DRM protected and there is no supported method to remove this protection. You can buy music from Apple and other sources that normally do not have DRM protection. Whether you can use the purchased music in other content depends on the purchase agreement.

and here about your device and everything it can play.

The guys from the Rose team will give you detailed information.

Bonte.

Yes mate, I was joking too.
