Can't Play 24bits files via USB Audio into DDC -> DAC

@ ROSELOA I am using the USB Audio out into Denafrips Iris => I2S into Denafrips Pontus II => COAX into receiver. I am unable to play files from Tidal at 24bits or files from RoseTube mp4. I am able to play Only the 16bit files. If I am to bypass the DDC Denafrips Iris and just go directly from the Rose RS250 to the Pontus everything plays accordingly.

Now, I want to, preferably, be able to use the USB audio out from the RS250 into the DDC Iris then I2S into Pontus II. Is there any setting that I need to change in order to be able to play all files format 16, 24bits, MP4, etc Via USB Audio out??

Thank You!

Hello

I don’t have Tidal, but do have my own High Res Audio @ 24K / 192khZ and I Cast it to the RS250 with no problems.

So my setup is similar to your but with an Ares rather then Pontus.

PC (cast with foobar200) → 10GB Connection → Switch → 1GB Rose 250 → USB to IRIS → Coax to Ares II → Amp

You can see on the IRIS and DAC that its playing the audio at the correct sample rate.
Also the media I’m casting to the RS250 is in FLAC format.

Thank you Nomad for sharing your setup experience. The one difference I see is that instead of coming out of the Iris via Coax, I’m coming out via I2S into the Pontus II.

I wrote to Vince in Denafrips but I have not gotten a reply yet. He suggested me to connect from Iris to Pontus via I2S. However, I haven’t been able to play the 24bits files. I just ordered a Coax cable to test that route. Hopefully, it will work.

RS250, usb audio-> Iris, I2S → Pontus, RCA → Receiver → Amp

Hello Honeywell

I Enjoy assisting if I can so most welcome.
Let me know how it goes with regards to the coax cable. I’m thinking of upgrading to a Pontus II at some stage. Be interesting to see.

I used to use the Toslink cable before, but have now moved over to Coax. They have higher Bandwidth then the toslink cables and to me sound better (subjective view).
I Would like to try Aes/EBU from the IRIS, but the Ares II does not have connector.

I2S should give the ‘best performance’ out of all connector types (from what people say but that is subjective) and I think on the Denafrips they are ‘programable’ so you can make them work with other DACS that have the I2S connector put different pin layout.

My understanding of connector / standard in terms of quality is as follows.

USB - Optical - Coax - AES/EBU - I2S

Would be interesting to hear your view with regards to I2S vs Coax

Hello Nomad

Issue resolved. Alvin the owner of Denafrips wrote me back explaining what could the issue be. Therefore, recommending to configure the DDC Iris and DAC Pontus to be in the same frequency per se (0000 or 1111) so they can shake hands via I2S. Very simply done. Now everything is singing beautifully. I’ve never heard sound quality this good coming out of my Keff R3 setup.

In reference to the difference between I2S vs Coax, I have not received the Coax cable I ordered yet. Based on Alvin’s recommendation the superior connection will be I2S above Coax. Since I was able to configured the DDC and DAC I’ll keep it that way. I also have my LG CX 77" sound out via Toshlink into the Rose. Now I’m able to listen to anything out of the Rose. Therefore, LG CX, Toshlink → Rose, USB audio → Denafrips Iris, I2S → Pontus II, RCA → Marantz AV7705, Balanced → Monolith 9x → Kef R3, Kef RC2, SVS SB 3000, etc.

Thank you again Nomad!
