Computer Expert Needed!

Hello, All! I’m a new owner and this is my first post here. I’m looking for help in configuring my RS130 as a Roon Endpoint with my Pachanko Constellation Mini SE (a minimalist audiophile headless Windows 11 machine) as a Roon Core.

*I’ve been using my Pachanko Mini SE as both a server for locally-stored FLAC and WAV files and also for streaming Tidal via Roon. Roon is installed on the Pachanko.
*I control Roon via an iPad.
*I access the Pachanko using AnyDesk, which allows me to view and interact with the Pachanko (it’s also how I add music files to the Pachanko’s storage drive (E:).
*The Pachanko (was) connected via USB to a Denafrips Terminator DAC, and via Ethernet cable to a switch attached to an eero WiFi node.

I connected both the Pachanko and the RS130 to the switch via Ethernet cables, but the RS130 hasn’t found the E:\ drive in the Pachanko that contains the music files.
I’m not a network or computer expert, but here’s what I’ve tried:

*I checked for Smb2 on the Pachanko and it wasn’t enabled. I found instructions on the web for doing that and successfully enabled it.
*I made the E:\ drive on the Pachanko sharable, then for good measure I also made the C:\ drive sharable, too.
*I made sure that the shares weren’t password protected.

Questions:
*Is there something else I should do on the Pachanko side?
*How exactly should I ensure that the RS130 looks for the Pachanko files? (It’s possible I’m not setting up the RS130 correctly).
*I notice when trying to activate Smb on the RS130 that it wants an ID and password and won’t let me proceed without one. What exactly is it looking for? I don’t think I have an ID and password set up…
*Assuming that I DO get the RS130 to find the Pachanko, how do I configure both units so the Pachanko can be a Roon Core and the RS130 can be the Endpoint?

Thank you so much!

One small part of this. But doesn’t your Roon Core already “provide” you with all of the music files you want via Roon? It would be redundant to have the RS130 do the same thing if you mainly plan on using Roon to access music (which I highly recommend).

And for getting the RS130 as endpoint, have you cone to the settings in Roon, go to Audio and see if the RS130 is there? Then you just have to hit “Enable” and it should be good to go.

Thanks for your help. One of my goals in getting the RS130 was to split up some of the processing demands that were previously being handled solely by my Pachanko server. Many audiophiles believe, for example, that using a Windows-based computer to handle everything from basic server duties to potentially-heavy Roon processing and then sending the output directly to a DAC via USB is less than ideal, and they recommend separating file storage from endpoint.
The first step I’m trying to accomplish is to get the RS130 to be able to see the FLAC and WAV files I have stored on the Pachanko’s E:\ drive.

That, all by itself, is a good reason not to do whatever it is that they believe. Incidentally, " minimalist audiophile Windows machine" is not thing.

That said, what you are trying to do is self-contradictory and therefore impossible. You can either play a file, on Rose, by grabbing it over the network from an SMB share, or you play it by sending it from Roon (over a network to Roon Ready device, direct USB connection, or anything else). You can’t do both at once.

If you really want to access files on the server, unless you have created some other users, you’d need to provide your Windows username and password to Rose to be able to connect to the share.

But really, given how much better Roon is at everything than Rose’s own software, there is very little point in doing that…
