Connecting an external powered sub

Would it be possible to use the internal power amplifer of the RS-520 to drive the main speakers, while at the same use the pre-amp outputs of the 520 to power an external powered subwoofer?

A magazine article explained that it was possible, but I’ve never tried it

Let me answer your questions.
The preamplifier and speakers are output simultaneously.
Only an active subwoofer (or amplifier) can be connected, in which case there is a separate power source on the subwoofer side.

  • A separate amplifier is required for a passive subwoofer.

Thank you

Thank you, this is very helpful, and a useful feature

Hi,
I have (or had a Rose 520 - returned for loud clicks/bangs in left channel, waiting for service)
and I have a powered subwoofer, and I just tapped the pre-out for signal. No probs.

I connected an SVS powered subwoofer to the preamp output, but no sound came from subwoofer until I turned on the preamplifier and selected a signal level and applied it.
After I turned on the preamplifier, the sound level of RS520 increased considerably.
With the Subwoofer RS520 sounds very nice.
I tested this setup by playing the following tracks from YouTube music on a Win 11 computer connected to RS520 via the USB input (this is my preferred setup this allows me to play music from any service)

Bass was amazingly good with all of them,
