Connecting RS130 to fibre

I bought that exact 10Gtek 1000Base-SX LC Transceiver but I’m not sure why it’s not been detected by the RP130 when trying to switch to SFP connection!? any tips or recommendations that I might be missing?

Did you power down the Rose (and the switch) and then power up again?

Yes! Problem solved, I suspected its the SFP modules (I had one in the switch bought another one to be installed in the RS130 , apparently they were both not compatible with one another!) , so basically I ordered 2 new matching SFP and it was automatically detected by the RS130.

The SFP optic connection definitely improved the sound, a darker back ground thus more details popping up in the process! A very cheap and effective way to improve the sound! Highly recommended.

Hi. I’m reading through this thread because i was interested in how people used the fiber port on the 130 in a home network environment

Am I wrong, or are people taking an ethernet cat 6(or 7) handoff from their internet router and then converting it to fiber using a transceiver, so that they can connect to the 130 with fiber?

If thats the case I dont understand the benefit, if the intent is to gain audio quality from using fiber, than isnt that gain negated once the signal is converted back to an ethernet cable?

I’d think the only true way to gain an advantage is to run fiber all the way back to the internet router, otherwise any gains are negated (or even worsened by adding additional components).

Am I completely misunderstanding or do people convert cat 6(or7) ethernet to fiber for the 130? If so where is the advantage between running straight cat 6 ethernet vs running cat 6 and converting to fiber?

Thanks for any insights. I’m investigating the topic as well.

Audiophiles hear the funniest things!

Technically, of course using fiber has no effect, positive or negative on sound quality. Although if one were dumb enough to use CAT 8 cables (there is no such thing as a CAT 7 cable that would actually connect to any home equipment; one of many reasons why CAT 7 standard is more dead than a dodo) fiber would prevent ground loops. That’s about it.

Yes Cat 7 served a specific purpose for data center equip - I added that as a catch all for rj 45
Youre right - Technically Cat 6, 6a or 8 are relevant.

Didn’t even get that far in datacenters. But the important thing is that if it is CAT 7 it is not RJ-45 and if it is RJ-45, it is not CAT 7, regardless of what FraudioQuest might be trying to sell.

Hi,

I bought everything suggested for fiber and it is not working. Do you think I should buy another so they match. I have the one that came with the media converter and bought this one. Do you think I should try another? Amazon.com: 10GTEK 1.25G SFP 1000Base-SX Multimode LC Fiber Transceiver Module, 850nm MMF, 550m, for Cisco GLC-SX-MMD/GLC-SX-MM/SFP-GE-S, Meraki, Fortinet, Ubiquiti UniFi, Mikrotik, Fortinet, TP-Link, Netgear : Electronics

Hello,

I had the one you mentioned before but it didn’t work (probably cause I had another module on the other end), I ordered 2 of these to match on both ends and it worked instantly! QSFPTEK SFP Module Gigabit Multimode LC Mini-GBIC Transceiver 1000BASE-SX for Cisco GLC-SX-MMD/GLC-SX-MM/SFP-GE-S, Ubiquiti UF-MM-1G, Netgear, Mikrotik, Other Open Switches (850nm, 550m, with DDM)

Other modules might work, just make sure you match the same transceiver models at both ends.

Oh, lucky you! You get to connect your RS130 to the RD160 without a hitch, while I’m over here trying to hook mine up to the ROSE service and failing miserably. I mean, I only bought three RS130, and one of them decided to kick the bucket within two hours. The replacement? It lasted a whole two weeks before joining its buddy in ROSE heaven. And the third one? Well, let’s just say it didn’t want to be left out of the party. Three devices, two weeks, all broken. Apparently, I’m not alone in this tragic tale—several of our forum mates have had the same delightful experience. So, enjoy your smooth sailing while I wait two months for my repair. Cheers!

Who are you talking to? Wow what a sad , scenario. Shame you wish your misfortune on the rest of the community.
All the best for the future.
