Copy external HDD on internal HDD

@Bourdeau

I checked your post by translating it into French, but I didn’t understand what you mean.
Please explain in detail in English.

Thank you

Has anyone made copies of external HDD connected via USB to the RS250A to the internal HDD of the RS250A? Couldn’t find it in the manual which is so succinct…(on this topic as well as on Ethernet LAN networking and sharing libraries between devices).

All is in the title !!

I use FTP to copy from any location in network, to internal SSD in the RS250.

You will have to setup a username and password on the RS250.
Afterwards connect from laptop towards the RS250 through FTP, and you can copy anything you like on the Internal (Optional) SSD .

Do not use SMB, as it is slow. FTP is super fast

Your answer is not understandable for every body ! Users need a step by step explanation with the “route” in the menus and exactly what to do !!
Inserting a HDD in a USB port of the RS250A, the menu does not show a copy/paste to the internal HDD wich should be the best maner to do the operation ! If it is necessary to be a networks specialist to use this device for so simple things…
So you had to give us a detail Manual, to explain all the steps to do for what I answer to you, with complete writing exemples.
In the RS250A in the Ftp menu it is asking: “numero de Port” , what is this, what do I have to write here ?
It is just an exemple, your Manual is very, very too poor for non specialists !!
Best regards

PS : I am french, so excuse me for my bad english. I hope you can understand what I mean here above.

I think I have done what it is shown in the demo.
First, I do not use Wifi local Network, but Ethernet local Network, I think this has no matter ? The IP adress of the RS250A is 192.168.1.39.
Second, I use FTP/ID/Password/Port with 12345 like in the example, I don’t know what I should have to write in spite of “workgroup” ?
But in the File explorer, typing “192.168.1.39:12345” nothing hapened ?!!
I try to make a “ping” in the cmd menu of windows, and the result is "messages received, 0 errors !
Where is the problem ?

I hope in the futur the RS250 can evolve to directly copy a HDD linked in a USB port of the RS250A into the internal HDD of the RS250A. It should be so easy !!!

@Bourdeau

We apologize for any inconvenience caused. First of all, try setting it to SMB instead of FTP as shown in the video. And since the RS250a doesn’t have storage, the features you want to add aren’t possible. We recommend connecting your HDD to a PC, adding or deleting sound sources, and then connecting RS250a again.

Thank you

Naturally I installed a SSD (4To) into the RS250A !!! Smb is very slow compared to ftp. I finally found a solution of my problem here :slight_smile: How to map network drive on Windows 11 - Pureinfotech

But the copy is very slow(2 to 4 Mo/s) in spite of 20 to 30 Mo/s with other devices on my local network (for example with a Cocktail Audio X50D I also have in my network) !!
Really it will be more practical to directly connect the HDD with USB to the RS250 and probably with a very higher speed… My music library contain more than 3500 albums (with all formats, CD44.1 to 192 k and DSD64 to512) and 1,7 To ! It is very very long to copy with your device.

Well, with the help of the document I refered to, I success in copying my external HDD towards the internal ROSEDISK of the RS250A ! The operation spent 3.5 days !!!
After that I tried to connect my external HDD in a USB port of the RS250A. I create a network link towards the HDD linked to the USB port of the RS250A (as windows 11 proposed to do). And now, I can make a copy/paste between the two HDDs (external, and internal), without the need to connect the external HDD to a PC (not in the same room !), and it works well !! I didn’t make measures to see if the speed of the transfert is faster, but it will be !

@Bourdeau

The part about SMB2,3 function is being reviewed by the research institute.

In accordance with Microsoft’s policy, SMB1 has been disabled by default, and it is strongly recommended that all devices use SMB2 or higher.
However, since SMB1 must be used now, you can use SMB1 by referring to the text below.

Control Panel > Network and File Access > Win/Mac/NFS/WebDAV > Microsoft Networking > Advanced Options > SMB Minimum Version SMB1 Select > Apply

Thank you

As I previously said, I prefer to use ftp, and now it works, and I can do copy/paste from a HDD directly connected to the RS250 A on a USB port, a USB Key connected to a USB port, the internal ROSEDISK, and all others devices linked on my private ethernet network !
