DAC is not connected

Dear HifiRose support,
Recently, I noticed that the RS150B frequently powers on automatically while in standby mode, displaying a message saying the DAC is not connected and asking to restart.

@john6518

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

The reason this message continues to appear even after factory reset is because the RS150b’s built-in DAC is not recognized by the RS150b.
Sorry to tell you this, but it looks like your RS150b’s audio board will need to be replaced.

Contact the distributor in the country where you purchased the RS150b to request repair.

After restarting, it works normally. This issue occurs when the device is in standby mode after being turned off.

This issue started after the update a few weeks ago. After shutting down and entering standby mode, the screen lights up shortly after and displays a message saying the DAC is not connected.

As I said above it looks like your RS150b’s audio board will need to be replaced.

As long as I completely shut down the device after each use instead of putting it into standby or sleep mode, it operates normally. However, you told me the device is faulty — such a simple response is frustrating.

After restarting, it can operate normally for the entire day without showing “DAC not connected.” The “not connected” message only appears when the device is in sleep with standby mode

I still don’t understand your response. The message “DAC not connected” appears when the device is turned off, but during normal use, no issues are observed. Yet you’re telling me the audio board is faulty? Please provide a clear and specific explanation of the cause.

@john6518
The image below appears when the RS150b’s built-in DAC isn’t recognized.
In this case, replacing the RS150b’s audio board can easily resolve the issue.

If you’re using an external DAC instead of the RS150b’s built-in DAC, there should be no problem. However, we still recommend replacing your RS150b’s audio board.

Yesterday, I performed a factory reset on the RS150B. It seemed to function normally, and even after being in standby mode overnight, the issue of “DAC not connected” did not occur.

May I ask which part is the audio board? Will the repair cost be high? This is quite a concerning matter.

@john6518

If you don’t see this message right away, there should be no problem using the device.

This issue requires replacing the entire audio board. For repair costs, please contact the distributor in your country of purchase.

This problem appeared in my 150b some months ago. It occurs only in standby mode with auto powerup to display this message. Got the same advice to see a repair tech which I ignored. Seems to me like a software bug as the problem disappears with complete power turn off (i.e. with the power switch in the back of the unit) and on turn on the unit works fine (till the next time, usually in a few weeks time.

“Yes, I agree with your statement. After two days in standby mode, the RS150B automatically powered on again last night and displayed ‘DAC not connected’. I also can’t understand why the audio board needs to be powered when the device is not in use.”

In addition, please ask the ROSE engineer to analyze and determine whether sudden voltage surges or drops in the mains power supply could affect the device.

A hasty and irresponsible response—has it ever been considered that it could cause consumers a waste of time and financial loss?

I had a terrible experience with this issue. My RS150B was underutilized and still developed a “DAC is not connected” major fault. As my unit was out of warranty, I had to bear all the repair costs. Upon checking with the local dealer, I was informed that both the power supply and audio board needed replacement. I paid XXX and had the boards replaced.

After the replacement, my Bluetooth remote—which was working perfectly before—stopped functioning. The dealer later replaced it with a new remote at an additional cost of XX.

If the issue lies within the product’s internal boards, HiFi Rose should take full responsibility and offer free replacements, rather than pushing the burden onto customers.

I was planning to upgrade to the RS130 along with the RD160, but after this experience, I’ve said a firm GOODBYE to the brand and moved to dCS.

I agreed with John, after the firmware update the problem on the DAC occurred. It is obviously the new firmware update has caused the issue. I don’t think is the DAC board malfunction. Very frustrating for getting an answer like this from Rose technical support. I personally owning a RS 150b, luckily I have not faced an issue like this. Is your problem still there?

When the RS150B is in standby with sleep mode, it automatically powers on and displays a “DAC not connected” message. However, after rebooting, the RS150B operates normally without issues. If you choose to power off the device instead of entering standby with sleep mode, the “DAC not connected” problem does not occur. Therefore, choosing standby or sleep mode leads to an endless cycle of errors.
