Db initialize vs. rescan database

I am unable to find an explanation of the difference between Database initialize and rescan database. Specifically, does a database initialization wipe out the existing music files vs a rescan which merely reindexes them?

Also, I have a number of ripped from CD albums which are not incorporated into the SSD database in a rescan. Must I reinitialize the database to incorporate them? If I do so will that reinitialization wipe out my existing mp3 music files on the internal SSD?
I’m hoping that the answer is that reinitialization will incorporate the ripped CDs and will not delete any of my existing mp3’s on the internal SSD.

Thank you.

I’d like to know too. Specifically how to not wipe favourites if reformatting the disc

DB initialize deletes all DB scanned on your Rose device. This does not delete files stored on your external hard drive or SSD.

Rescan DB allows you to view the newly added/deleted sound source on the Rose device by performing a rescan DB when you add/delete a new sound source from an external hard drive or SSD connected to your Rose device.

What happens if files/directories are deleted in Rose device, do a DB rescan and they entries of previous scans are still visible?
How far back in date/time does a DB rescan go?
Are changed tags in FLAC files found with a DB rescan?

Rosehan,

Thank you. I’m still unclear. When you say “DB initialize deletes all DB scanned on your Rose device” do you mean it only deletes the index of the database or that it deletes the mp.3 files as well as the index? In other words is DB initialize the equivalent to a reformat of the internal SSD?
If rescan DB adds a new sound source why does it not add and incorporate into the internal SSD database, new ripped CDs? If I understood your explanation above, it should do that and my RS 130 doesn’t do that.

Here are the answers to your questions.

  1. If files deleted from the Rose device are visible even after rescanning, initialize the DB and then scan the DB. If you still see the deleted files, please let me know.
  2. The time it takes to rescan the DB may vary depending on the capacity of your external hard drive or SSD. DB-related updates will be distributed this week. Time improvements have been added when scanning DB.
  3. When rescanning the DB, it is also confirmed that tags have been modified in the FLAC file.

Here are the answers to your questions.

  1. DB initialize does not delete all files stored on an external hard drive or SSD. DB initialize is to initialize the DB scanned by the external hard drive or SSD connected to the Rose device.
  2. If the newly added CDs are not displayed even after Rescan DB, scan the DB after initializing the DB.
