DB Scanning and Duplicate Album

Dear HiFi Rose Team,

I previously posted a message regarding an issue where some music albums in my RS150B became duplicated and could not be deleted. Since i was unable to locate my original post, so I’m starting a new one here to share my findings and suggestion.

Issue Overview
After some investigation, I’ve identified how the duplication happens and how it can be resolved. I hope this helps your team look into the scanning logic for a future improvement.

How It Happened
I uploaded a new album (in a folder, with metadata) to the RS150B and triggered a database scan. The album then appeared correctly in the Rose Connect Premium app.
Later, I decided to update the album title by adding “XRCD” in the metadata. I made the changes on my computer and re-uploaded the same folder to the RS150B—same folder name and file count.
After performing another database scan, the RS150B showed two versions of the same album, and I found no way to delete the duplicate from the device interface.

Correct Workflow (Preventive)
To avoid this, one should:

  1. Delete the original folder from the RS150B,
  2. Perform a database scan to remove it from the index,
  3. Upload the updated folder,
  4. Run a final scan to populate the updated album.

How I Resolved It
The only effective solution I found was to perform a DB Initialization directly from the RS150B, followed by a full database scan. While this method works, it is quite tedious and not user-friendly.

Suggestion
It would be great if the RS150B’s scanning routine could be improved to better detect changes in album metadata and avoid retaining orphaned or duplicated entries. Automatically matching and updating modified albums—based on folder name and file hash, for example—could significantly enhance the user experience.

Thank you for your attention and your continued development of this great product.

Best regards,
ESP

@esp156 Hello. The DB problems are mentioned at least for 2 years now and almost no improvement except scanning speed. Read our posts. Don’t expect this problem to be addressed any soon. Maybe when a new development team with more knowledge takes over. That’s a joke. Use roon for your DB it’s the only way unfortunately.

I’ve noticed that too. The rescan doesn’t remove albums that no longer exist.

I am satisfied with the database scanning efficiency on my RS150B. It used to be quite slow, but performance improved significantly after a firmware update some time ago. My current library is around 186GB, consisting of approximately 3,800 songs across 280 albums. Each time I initiate a scan, it completes within a few minutes so i am happy with that.

You can try the steps i normally do :
In front of the device, select setting>media library

  1. perform DB Initialization
  2. perform DB deletion
  3. perform DB scanning

so far it works to get rid of orphan album.

Thanks. Yes, recreating the database works, of course, but with more than 14,000 albums, it’s not so great

i agree with MuP. Hope that Hifirose can do something to auto remove the orphan album.
