Deeply disappointed in my RS130

so i have tried to live with this streamer for the last 6-8 weeks and it only gets worse.

  1. when i choose something to play (and assuming that even works) it cuts off the 1st 2-3 seconds of the music. annoying but thought maybe it’d get fixed with an update.
  2. iPad app crashing constantly, i choose an album and press play, then i get the spinning wheel on the screen and it never stops. closing out the app and restarting is not guaranteed to fix the issue though it occasionally does.
  3. starting this week when i choose something to play it might play most of the 1st song but then it skips to next song which it plays for only 20s then skips to next song, rinse and repeat.
  4. frequently i’ll choose an album to play and no songs show up. or they show up but pressing play does nothing.

i am contacting my dealer and hoping for a return. Rose, your product simply doesnt work well enough, look at all the posts here, many many people have MAJOR issues. it’s inexcusable for a product this expensive. on top of that it isnt even as advertised with no Roon Ready certification.

and for reference, the unit is connected by ethernet. my ethernet is gig speed. AND i also still have a Roon Nucleus+ connected to the same system and i have zero issues with it.

Sounds bad Tyler, and I feel for you, but I’m thinking most if not all of these problems are due to the app. Only as a point of comparison, I’m running my RS130 from mConnect (since this makes it easy to compare to my old streamer), and none of your listed problems are occurring. In fact, the RS130 is running very nicely and sounds wonderful. I’ll agree the app is not ready for prime time, but the hardware doesn’t seem to be at fault here. Give mConnect a try while the Rose team figures out how to write an app.

I agree, I use mconnect for Qobuz on my 130
and the Rose app for radiostations
Qobuz works flawlessly with the mconnect app

I used mConnect with my Ayre QX-5 Twenty and wasn’t impressed. Been emailing with dealer today and hoping for a return. The RS130 is not a fully developed or fully functional product. For 5100 plus tax it’s inexcusable to be this dysfunctional. Anyone having issues should contact their dealers and press for a solution, it’s the only way Rose will fix things. This forum is full of bug complaints and many Rose products have been out for a couple years. I also have a Roon Nucleus+ and in 3+ years of use I’ve had ZERO issues. It has never once not worked, never forgot a login, never skipped tracks… we should not be settling for major bugs with such an expensive product.

I honestly cannot disagree with this, Tyler. HiFi Rose has chosen to target a price segment where the competition is definitely high end and definitely fierce. Their products (HW and SW) must work together flawlessly (or near as much).

Having said that, for me the RS130 is the best sounding streamer in this price range I’ve had in my system. I guess I’m lucky that I’ve used mConnect in the past, so I don’t find it to be that much of a negative - for the moment. If Rose doesn’t quickly figure out how to get their own app working, I’ll admit I’ll be unhappy.

@Tyler - the 140 sounds amazing while it’s working. I added the cd 780 to it and it worked for about 5 minutes and started and stopped about every 3 seconds. I’ve already returned the cd and hoping to return the 130 as well.

I’m going back to LUMIN or innous. I want to come home and listen to music and not fiddle with buggy software. It’s too bad they focus on too many things at once instead of getting the basics right.

I have found the RS130 extremely stable, in fact the MOST stable platform I’ve ever owned. I’ve used Squeeze, Yamaha, Inuous, Auralic and Aqua.

Typically I always find streamers require regular reboots to reconnect after a period of non-use. Not so with the Rose. I recently didn’t use the unit for several weeks. Hit the power button and off I went, app connected first time.

Mine always “just works”.

Thanks. I suspect the OP has major user error, probably in the home network department.

Mine has been flawless since the day I got it, easily as stable as my innuos was and sounds better, although I use Android and not apple

Got a RS130 couple months after getting bored with my Aurender A100 and a nice set of Denafrips Pontus 2, Iris ddc and a Terra masterclock.

Flawless since day one and I ordered the rsa720 which I picked this morning, can’t wait to connect the little bugger.

IT JUST WORKS PERFECT! I’m sure the internet signal is a problem with others…
