The row of digital outputs on the 150-B I noticed the USB beside the J45 i2s output is labeled input ? Where as if you wanted to try a outboard dac and use USB shouldn’t this USB port be output ?

‘USB IN’ port is used when you use RS150B as a DAC. For example, when you connect PC and RS150B with USB cable using the USB IN port in RS150B. The source of music will be your PC. RS150B will be just a DAC.
The two USB-A ports you can see at the right of the rear are used to connect with CD ROM, USB storage and external DAC.

I am interested on buying an RS150, which I would use in conjunction with my Denafrips Terminator II DAC
I have some doubts related with the I2S connection capabilities of the 150
According to the manual the device does not send native DSD thru I2S, only DOP. Is this a definitive situation or is it just temporary? E.g., is there any chance that with some future firmware the unit could send native DSD thru its digital outputs?
I am asking because the opposite occurs with the Denafrips products. They accept only native DSD thru their I2S connections; not DOP.
Second, I want to know if the I2S connection is LVDS or LVCMOS.
And finally , and since it has very powerful processors, I want to ask if there would be any chance in the future of converting the RS150 into a Roon core. Would it be just a software upgrade or would it imply a hardware replacement?

Hi Hiker, thx for the answer. My main point is not related with how to decide between usb or I2S, but with the possibility of carrying native DSD over the 150’s digital outputs (all of them), which now looks forbidden.

Ok. After some research I conclude that there is no way (up to now) for getting native DSD from the RS150’s digital outputs. Only DOP.
So, there is only one question remaining. Are the I2S ports LVDS or CVMOS? Thx for your future answer.

Since I2S is a digital output, it is bypassed and used as a Pontus 2 DAC (external DAC).
