Do I need an external preamp with Rose 150b?

I have my 150b connected to to Schiit Audio Aegir mono block amps over XLR/balanced interconnects.

Sounds pretty powerful through my Tekton M-Lore (96db) loudspeakers.

I’m also going to test a Parasound Halo A 23+ power amp this week.

What am I missing by not having an external preamp? Or to put another way, doesn’t the 150b have a pre-amp built-in?

Thanks

hello,

Theoretically, since the volume can be adjusted in ROSE, it can be used directly connected to the power amplifier. This method is used by quite many users. However, not all amplifiers are perfectly compatible. Try the power amplifier. If you experience clipping, or you don’t like the sound, you may need a preamplifier.

I have tried it both ways. With and without a preamplifier. I have a Parasound Halo A 21 power amp and a Parasound Halo P5 Preamplifier.
I liked the sound better when my Rose 150B was connected to my preamplifier than direct to my poweramplifier.

Appreciate your reply. I will try the very same thing and hoping that the preamp actually gives me more ‘color’ options that the Parasound amp will simply then “amplify”.

Makes perfect sense, thank you
