Dolby Atmos music

What is the impediment to the RS130 passing Dolby Atmos content through to an AV preamp / receiver for decoding? The RS130 supports Apple Music and Tidal, both of which offer Dolby Atmos content and it has an HDMI output. What am I missing? Is this a software issue or a hardware issue or a licensing fee issue? I mean a $150 AppleTV can do it.

I apologize advance if this question has been asked and answered.

Eleven,

Great question I have been trying to get a straight answer on this from @ROSEHAN @ROSELOA. The RS130 has a HDMI Passthrough option that one would ASSUME works to passthrough Dolby signals to be decoded elsewhere. Unfortunately, I still don’t have an answer but from my testing it DOES NOT WORK.

Can we get some response from rose on this please?

I can’t even get to the option menu that lets you turn on the passthrough function. When I press the input/output button, all I get is the graphical representation of the back of the unit. Am I missing something or was the option removed during one of the software updates?

I don’t find this menu, where is it ?

I saw it on page 41 of the manual. If you don’t see it on the unit, it probably means it was removed in a software update. Not sure I want to restore to the factory settings just to see if the passthrough choice appears. Now if it gave me Atmos, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Using the AppleTV to stream Atmos is my current option outside of purchasing Blu-rays, but in either case I have to turn on the projector just to navigate the menus.

This is the link to the manual. Scroll down to page 41. Section 2-2-2-4, HDMI Passthrough. Output Settings.

But the manual does not match the software version of my RS130 on this point.

That is correct. That is why it was frustrating, for me anyway, to purchase this with an expectation that it would pass Atmos. I hope they add the feature in the future and that it won’t require upgrading to a new unit. That said I am not aware of many, or any, standalone music streamers with HDMI out that stream Atmos content. The Marantz AV10 AV preamp streams and decodes Atmos does but I committed to the Trinnov.

Dear HiFi Rose users

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

We do not support special sound sources such as Atmos or Dolby.
It doesn’t look like it will be easy to improve this area in the future.

@ROSEHAN will ATMOS not come with the promised AMAZON HD MUSIC release this year?

I think we need some assurance that this will be worked on, passing HDMI bitstream is something that can be done by devices costing 1/10th of the cost of the rose. I have a workaround with my AppleTV which is crazy…

Thanks for clarifying FINALLY that the passthrough never worked.

@OscarPapa

Amazon Music is planned to be added within the year, but Dolby Atmos music is not confirmed to be in the plans yet.
