EU RED Certification PIN Number

Just seen the release notes for the latest firmware about the mandatory PIN number.

What about people not in the EU do they have to put up with this inconvenience?

I don’t want it, I just like to turn on and be straight to my music. Can the pin number be removed later in the menu?

Also for example if say an elderly person sets this pin number then maybe doesn’t use the system for a couple months. This person has then forgotten the PIN, how to gain access again? Does it need factory reset? How to do this if you don’t have access to the system?

In my opinion, this PIN code only needs to be entered once after it’s requested after the update. After that, it doesn’t seem to ask for it again on subsequent launches of the player.

I confirm, no code request when using the reader

Does it ask for it after a cold start? For example turning on after it’s been fully disconnected from the mains power supply for a period of time.

Unfortunately, the EU RED Certification PIN remains valid outside of the EU.

If you’ve forgotten your PIN, you can reset it by resetting your Rose device to factory settings.

Dear HiFi Rose Support,

I am using the RS130 together with my iPhone as a controller. Every time I power on the RS130 with the remote control, I have to walk up to the unit and manually enter the PIN code before I can use my iPhone.

This feels quite inconvenient, since the whole idea is to be able to control the device remotely. Is it really necessary to enter the PIN every time after power on? Is there any setting that allows me to save the PIN, disable it at startup, or use another method to unlock the unit automatically?
I would really appreciate your advice on this matter.

Best regards,

He never asked me for the Pin code when turning on or off standby (RS130)

The same thing happened to me with the Rose RS-250. I no longer get a PIN from standby or the app. It’s the same as before.
If you turn the device off completely, you might have to enter the PIN code, but I haven’t tried that yet.

Can you unplug your RS 130 completely, wait a few minutes, and then plug it back in? Then turn it on, and will I be asked to enter a PIN?

Thank you.

I’d just like to see some reference to a specific paragraph in EU RED Cybersecurity document that requires something like this PIN. Or another product, legal for sale in EU, with similar implementation.

I have a strong suspicion that the answer is “no” to both.

The way i understand it, the whole EU data protection thing is to enable a country lock, region lock, language lock or even customer lock in order to stop those devices being traded/resold across any virtual border by private users or third market traders.

The PIN is there to prevent unorthorised access to the device say from outside vendors, functions like streaming services who like to steal all kinds of data from their users

When I unplug the RS130, at startup it doesn’t ask me for any code

Only when I go to certain menus: Bluetooth, user account etc as specified at the beginning of this post when the Shift was published

  • After updating to V5.9.07, you must update the RoseConnectPremium App to the latest version to ensure that ROSE devices can be discovered.

With the V5.9.07 update, a security authentication feature was added, requiring a PIN code (8-digit number) entry process. If a PIN code has not been set, the user must enter a random number of their choice for the first time. Once entered, the PIN code must be entered the first time entering the next menu.

The PIN code must be entered when powering the Rose device off and on.

I don’t know if you understood me…

I meant to completely unplug the device from the power outlet. I realized in standby mode that it doesn’t ask for a PIN code.
Can you completely unplug the device’s cable from the power outlet and then you’ll get a prompt asking for a PIN code?

Thanks

I didn’t put it to sleep, I cut the power so it turned it off.

He asked me for the code only for the functions mentioned above.

What an idea to remove the power outlet! If the device is off (not in standby) it is a classic use

That’s absolutely not what the text of the directive says anywhere.

And the PIN in now way would, could or does do prevent any of that.

But it’s probably not surprising that the Rose has just as tenuous grasp of what the directive actually requires (or reality in general) as their average customer…

Thank you for the reply @ROSEHAN.

But can you confirm 100% that from a cold start (no mains power previously) you can access the Factory reset option without needing a PIN number to choose this action in the first place?
