External Clock for RD160 and RS130

Those that are using RS130-RD160 combination, what external clock are you using and what are your experiences ?

@ROSEHAN

Is Hifi Rose planning to introduce its own external clock?

Good question , that’s what I want !!

The brands so far I’m interested is Mutec Ref10 and Esoteric G-05.

Can someone explain clocks for a second for those of us not masters of the digital domain.

  1. What is the difference between a Master Clock and Master Clock Generator? Maybe Mutec’s website is just slightly inaccurate, but it lists the same product in both categories.
  2. Do you need an ethernet switch with Clock capabilities or can you just use the Clock for the 130 and 160? Does an ethernet switch with Clock capabilities have tangible benefits even if it is not required? I have no other components that are Clock capable.
  3. In the case of the Mutec Compact audiophile it has 4 connections, 2X50 ohms and 2X75 ohms. Since I only need have two components I can use the same ohm output but if I added a switch, can you sync two at 75 ohms and one at 50 ohms given the clock speed is the same at 10mhz?

Thanks in advance for sharing the knowledge.

First of all, unless you are running a recording studio and need to keep multiple ADCs and DACs and DAWs in sync, an external clock is absolutely pointless.

  1. No difference
  2. No. That’s not how Ethernet works
  3. Or just don’t do anything, and enjoy exactly identical sound with fewer cables.

Again, Boris, you are talking nonsense.
I have an RS130 AND an RD160 and also 2 Sotm SE switches with their own clocks but also synchronized by an external clock, so I can speak from what I know.
The benefit of a clock for the RS130 and RD160 is immediately audible (larger soundstage, more micro-details, more air between instruments and voices, more depth, in short more of everything). It is not necessary to have switches synchronized by a clock, but it brings the same benefits mentioned just above.
As for the RS130 and RD160, a good clock is necessary to exceed the qualities of the internal clocks of these devices. I have a Cybershaft OP19, the gain is really significant, I also have a LHY OCK-2S (for my switches) that I tested with the RS130 and RD160 and it also brought a more relaxed representation and full of details less audible with the internal clocks. In addition I think that if the devices are synchronized with the same clock, it is a little more…
Be careful, it is not day and night, but when we go back to the internal clocks, something is missing…
I could not go back, although I was already very happy with the result of the internal clocks.

Just ignore Boris. He’s still on RS250, he doesn’t own RS130 or RD160. He can never dream to own an external clock, let alone even a better streamer. He’s just very beginner starting in this hobby with no ownership experience of any of the products we are discussing. All his opinions are only from his imagination, not any actual research and real life experience from ownership or usage. He’s so passionate , but can’t even afford RS130 , so that’s why he’s so angry always making imaginary arguments based on his jealousy for actual owners.

PatriceP, don’t you have to have the clock (Cybershaft OP19) plugged into both pieces? Looks like it only has one output. Edit - I see they have a version with two outputs.

How would you rate the Cybershaft vs Esoteric G05 or Mutec REF10?

my OP19 has two outputs

I don’t know Esoteric or Mutec REF 10 Se or REF10. I had a REF10 nano, which was obviously defective and I sent it back to the supplier, since then I had given up on the matter.
At the end of the year, I first bought an OCK-2S which was good, then I found a few days ago a second hand for the Cybershaft OP19 and I bought it.
It’s quite difficult to compare, but I would say that compared to the LHY, with the Cybershaft everything is more relaxed, the depth of the scene is abysmal and I rediscover all my favorite tracks with so much more detail, but in a softness that the internal clocks did not see and that the LHY found but rougher.

That sounds very promising

Hi PatriceP
What is the theory behind an external clock, or more specifically is it a more accurate clock, or is it because you are syncing different components to the external clock, or something else?
