External phono preamp into RA180 bypass pwr amp mode

I have a turn table phono output going into a phono stage preamp. Should I connect the output of my phone stage preamp into RA180 line in 1-3 with bypass-power amp mode off? Or would it be better to connect it to line in 3 with bypass-power amp mode on?

Does the phono stage preamp source need to run through the RA180 internal pre amp? I would t think so as it is a fixed line in, right?

If you use it in bypass power amplifier mode, you cannot adjust the volume.
So, we recommend turning off bypass mode and allowing the phono stage preamplifier source to be played through the RA180’s internal preamplifier.
