If you already have everything, such as gold-plated fuses, singing bowls, diamond-coated network cables, external clock generators, SFP switches, and fiber optic cables installed by moonlight, don’t let anyone enlighten you, but it should give you food for thought!
First price is relative.
To some 10K is nothing while to many its a lot.
Or 5K.
So for some, the Douk A5 series (Ampapa or Nobusound) is what they can afford and sounds great. Especially when paired w a good set of op-amps.
But its not going to compare w more expensive and better gear. Which gets into the other issue synergy.
Pass Labs amps are great. However they aren’t going to pair with everything.
One of the best speakers I heard were the Linkwitz. However you need to buy the speakers, analog XO, and amps then pick your source. Or if you start w Platimons, there are a lot of amps that work. I prefer the OA monoblocks . But then what do you put in front of it? an RS451 ? Some say Eversolo, others have their choices.
But to the point… its not the dollar amount, but getting the right synergy that works for you.
Unfortunately my wife fell in love w the Acora Acoustic bookshelf s in amethyst.
They are good, but very expensive eye candy.
Except that the missed point (as usual) is that “more expensive” and “better” are quite orthogonal.
That’s because they are very much not great, they just have a coloration that some people like.
“Synergy” is one of those useless words dealers like to use after they sell you an expensive but crappy component that sounds bad at your home – turns out you also need to upgrade everything else “for synergy.” Trying to fix e.g. speakers with frequency response that looks like a saw blade with source components with equally bad but opposite problems might be synergistic. But a better approach is to have something that works right in the first place.
Unless you are looking for some very specific inaccuracy applied to everything you play, in which case you might as well get those Pass amps, Lampizator DACs and speakers to match, well, you would get more accurate and true to recording results from some Douk and a pair of decently designed speakers.
He said “stop buying expensive amplifiers” and dropped a 30,500 USD expensive integrated like it was a budget pick
