How long to burn-in New RS130?

I noticed a significant change after 100 hours of streaming music through my new RS130, such as more ‘velvet’ voices and more ‘liquid’ présentation…

Any confirmation from you other users ? How long will this burn-in process allow for even more SQ improvement ?

I can confirm similar burn-in experience. Around 100hrs looks like to be the sweetspot.

Thanks. My setup includes Rose RS720 USB optical hub connected to my MSB DAC. Any idea if it might have an impact on the burn-in duration ?

I doubt that an optical hub would have a ‘burn-in’ effect that would effect the transmission of light, but I’m always surprised in this hobby.

I’m at around 100 hours and I too, have noted a sweeter tone. Spatially, it was great out of the box.

Hi @ZABOKS, I have a RS130 and I have a MSB Discrete with ProISL USB interface on my way. Could you comment on how you hook it up? Which input are you using on the MSB? Have you tried ProISL? Thanks!!

Hi @carbonero, I connect my RS130 in USB to my MSB Diamond V. Tried several hi-end (i.e expensive…) USB cables and far better results are through ROSE’s RS720 Optical fiber cable from RS130, and small (20 cm) USB cable from RS720 to my DAC : very good solution at reasonnable price !

This DAC has no ProISL option, like in my previous MSB Discrete, which I didn’t try at the time, since I didn’t have the RS130/RS720. In any case, I believe that it could be the utltimate best solution, to connect directly the RS130 USB fiber output to the ProISL input, taking advantage of the modular approach of SFP coupler into the RS130, allowing you to select a compatible fiber with the ProISL… avoiding ANY USB cable !

Please kindly keep us posted here : mostly interested to know if you try it and how it works !

Hi ZABOKS!

Thanks for your comments.
I do believe ProISL should be the best conection, but I’ll test and get back here.
I’ll have the products in approximately 2/3 weeks.
I’ll also have a Antipodes server, SOtM switch and Aardvark ethernet cables and filters.
Can’t wait to listen.
The rest of the system is: Magico S5MKII, Pilium Leonidas, Audioquest power conditioner and cables. It’s very revelaing, I believe it will be a good testbed for these conections.

I’m only at 50-60 hours (I think), and also noticing much less graininess, and more liquid and analogue sound. Was not too impressed in the beginning, but it is getting really nice. Spatially also levitating to a new level. Running 24/7 at the moment with lcd off

I’m on my third RS130 (first one broke). They start off good, maybe back up a little but that could be just my perception, then they smooth out. They don’t seem to respond that much to tweeking but we need to have a ‘tune session’ to what works best in our system(s). The Nordost Q-point sat on the 130 and while I couldn’t hear a difference, my wife could. My wife’s RS130 sits on Costco wood stand where mine sits on a Adona rack with 3" maple so she stole my Iso Acoutsic Gaia footers. A minor improvent with space within her system.

I want my footers back…

@KABOKS AFAIK the RS130 USB Fiber port is an input port – connect a USB Hub’s SFP to RS130’s USB Fiber & connect Mobile HDDs to the USB Hub (this connection is to produce the best Audio Sound & best Picture Quality for Media Library file playback.

Thus with RS130’s SFP Ethernet Fiber Optic & USB Fiber, the outcome is the best Audio/Video for internet/ethernet streaming and the best Audio/Video for Media Library file playback. ← the latter assumes USB Fiber will produce better AV than NAS Ethernet access.

Rs130 USB fiber is both input and OUTPUT port : My DAC is connected to it thru the RS780 !

Thanks. Nice to know.

@KABOKS With SFP Fiber Optic Ethernet: For best file playback sound, do you recommend I access my Music Library NAS (via Ethernet) or is it better, I copy my music files to Mobile HDDs, connect these disks to a USB Hub which, in turn, would be connected to the RS130 USB Fiber.

I have copied my NAS Library to a 4Tb Samsung SSD which I connected via USB 3.0 port first, then installed it as INTERNAL SSD, where I found ?most files sound better to my ears (and to some Friends’ ears as well).

Thanks, I definitely appreciate hearing the outcome of your use case.

How did you connect the SDD on the RS130 USB port – did you use an adapter, a hub or what?

Is your 4TB SDD near full? Any plans for what you’ll do when the SDD is full?

I used a USB 3.0 adapter, which I used first to copy the NAS disk to the SSD disk.

Yes : near full. No plan to extend, because of Qobuz… New downloads will probably replace ‘so-so’ music files on the SSD !

Thanks, your quick feedback is appreciated.

My pleasure ! After using several others, I’m very satisfied with the RS130 + RS720 combo, especially running fiber on both SFP input (Ethernet) and output (USB to the RS720)…

I second that, the additional investment in the RSA720 is highly recommended for SQ from my experience.

I’ve read a lot about burn-in things. some manufacturer even write about it in their manual.
But I’ve always asked myself, with what should I compare after 100+ hrs, when you don’t have a brand new one beside? How should I know that it sounds better? isn’t it due to more often listening, you get used to the sound? or some sort of satisfaction/happiness after the buy?
And this is a really serious meant question.
