Is there a way to obtain an IP and then use it as a static IP to avoid conflict later? I went from wireless and tried to use ethernet and now if will not connect to the network. any help would be appreciated.

Go to Settings > Ethernet, then tap the gear icon in the top right corner to set up a Static IP.
