Intermittent HDMI-CEC power loop with Sony TV + Apple TV — temporarily fixed by toggling “eARC Power Interlock”

Hi,

I’m experiencing an intermittent HDMI-CEC power issue with my setup:

  • Sony TV (HDMI ARC/eARC)
  • HiFi Rose RS520 (connected via HDMI ARC/eARC)
  • Apple TV (regular HDMI input)
  • Control via Apple TV remote

Everything works normally at first: turning Apple TV on/off correctly powers the TV and the HiFi Rose.

However, after some time (hours or days), a power loop appears:

  1. I put Apple TV to sleep
  2. TV and HiFi Rose turn off
  3. After 1–2 seconds they turn back on
  4. I must repeat shutdown several times before they stay off

I tested multiple settings on the TV and Apple TV, but the issue persists.

Toggling “eARC Power Interlock” on the HiFi Rose (OFF→ON or ON→OFF)

temporarily stops the loop, but only for a limited time.

Eventually the problem returns, regardless of the setting state.

This suggests the feature may be triggering an unintended CEC power command or conflicting with Sony’s Bravia Sync.

I can provide models and firmware versions if needed.

Thanks!

Hmmm
Do you live in an apartment or condo?
I have a similar issue w my Samsung TV where we shut it off and leave the room only to find that it turned itself back on minutes later.

To be honest, these smart TVs / Gadgets are ‘asleep’ but still on and they are connected to the internet.
So that makes you wonder…

@ROSEHAN can this be fixed? It is very annoying firmware issue

@jwierzbo
Sorry for the late reply. I’ll check the issue on my TV and get back to you.
Doesn’t this issue occur when connecting only the TV and RS250?
Does it occur when there’s a separate CEC-supporting device connected to the TV’s HDMI port?

@Smegel
Please check if this issue occurs when connecting a Samsung TV and Rose device via HDMI eARC.

Hi. Yes, it only happens when there are more than two devices. Sometimes it occurs after a few days, and other times after a few weeks.

@jwierzbo
The RS520 only receives and processes CEC Power On/Off commands.
To confirm, when the RS520 power is turned off, the TV does not turn off.
It does not initiate Power On actions nor retransmit any CEC commands.
I think it would be good to use it by turning off eARC power linkage in input settings.
After buying an Apple TV and testing it out If there is any additional information confirmed, I will provide additional comments.

Sorry in my example… its the TV not connected to anything except the internet and a sound bar.

I suspect the issue is either getting a stray RF signal or something on the network signaling it to wake up and power on. Both the RS520 and the Samsung have ‘wake on lan’ features built in.
(This is how the Rose Connect app can wake up the RS520 or if you try casting to your tv and its off it will turn on. )

For my situation… its rare and intermittent so its hard to debug.
