Ipad lossless streaming to Rose 150 USB DAC questions

  1. I am using an iPad Pro to stream Hi-Res apple lossless music to a Rose 150b USB DAC.
  2. I am using Rose 150 B as a DAC only, outputing to an analogue preamplifier via balanced output.
  3. I have 2 questions
    • How do i know the audio signal quality. The signal path in the Rose Connect app doesn’t show any value.
    • I am able to control the volume from the ipad as well. Ideally it should be greyed out with pure digital stream going to the DAC.

Thank you

I think the simple answer is that Apple make it difficult to know what you’re actually listening to. In your case using Apple iPad Pro to stream to your DAC I think it likely you are listening to an Apple ALAC lossless stream.

I would just set your iPad Pro to maximum volume. Then use your amplifier to adjust volume.

I am using a RW800 and it seems it’s not possible to listen to anything higher than Apple AAC.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Regarding your questions:

  1. Unfortunately, it is not possible to check the current audio signal information, such as the sample rate or bit depth, on the RS150B. This is because the necessary signal information is not provided by the internal DAC for display in the system or Rose Connect app.
  2. When the iPad is connected to the RS150B via USB, the iPad sends volume control commands through USB. The actual volume adjustment is then performed internally by the RS150B. Therefore, being able to control the volume from the iPad does not mean that the iPad itself is directly adjusting the digital audio data.

We hope this answers your questions.
