Just how buggy is the software? I want a 151

I love everything about this product in theory. Great build hardware quality, clean power, fabulous DAC, and, importantly, those VMU meters on a great display.

But….

I’m really worried about all these bug reports. I don’t want so spend $5k on a streamer and find it fraught with issues. I only want to play Spotify connect, once lossless, and watch those VMU meters. I’d probably get an Everlsolo A10 if it came in silver, but nope.

For those of you with the 151, does it at least do the basics well?

You can buy it and you don’t have to update the player to the latest version, first of all, and secondly, spending $5,000 and listening to Spotify doesn’t make sense to me, it’s better to buy something cheaper.

Go with the Eversolo T8 transport if you have already a dac. It’s far more cheaper and from a software stand point much better than the hifi rose. I have the RS130 and i ordered the Eversolo T8. Probably my RS130 goes for sale. I am tired waiting for the hifi rose development team to fix the simple things. In a few days as it seems i am done with the amateurs.

Ever Solo also has software issues. Someone posted information about this in a thread here. I don’t know about the transports, but compared to the Rose RS 151, it’s a top-of-the-line streamer. In my opinion and that of several friends who were considering buying Ever Solo, none of us bought their top-of-the-line streamer. For everyone, the Rose is a better device in terms of functionality and sound.

I think for $1,400 the T8 is worth picking up while Rose fixes the RS130 or a better transport comes along, for example, something that passes Dolby Atmos music and has gapless playback of Apple music. Oh wait, my AppleTV does both of those for $150.

That said, OP is looking for something with a DAC. The T8 is not an option.

I use Apple for music now, but prefer the Spotify UX which I use for podcasts. With lossless now available for Spotify, planning on switching fully.

This is what I’m afraid of. I don’t want to have to wait for fixes, worry about firmware versions. Every YT video on this product is filled with support issues.

I’ve given the eversolo a good look. I really value the silver aesthetic which sadly they only do up to the A6… I will likely go that route given the consistent issues I keep seeing on rose products.

Yes indeed but it works on the basics. DSD gapless playback and rescan library works as it should on Eversolo. Hifi rose cannot fix those issues for 2 years now and that is the basics. Not to mention all other application bugs. I have my own library and as a file player i want the device to work flawlessly.

Don’t stay on that in my opinion. Look at the sound and the functionality. I can’t say much i will return when i get my hands on the eversolo t8 and do a comparison between t8 and rs130 in a couple of weeks. But for me hifi rose it’s history.

The problem with Hifi Rose is, that you can’t expect that for example Spotify losless will run in the future. They are not able (or interested in) to reactivate Tidal connect.
Only as (what I’m doing) Roon endpoint the device have worked until the latest firmware update. Here we’ve currently a big problem with the standby mode.

By the way: Eversolo don’t have a standby mode (only display off or shutdown, but with never devices wake on lan) and the Rose products looking much better.

If you only want to have a VU meter, than you can also buy a really good streamer (lumin has for example a grandios support, stable firmware and Spotify losless integrated since day one) and an external VU meter or an amp with one included.

Eversolo has many many software bugs. Just fyi.

Alexwberg,

Horses for courses.
HiFi Rose is not perfect. But then no manufacturer’s products are.
I am a constant bitcher about how the software could be better. Still, I own four HiFi Rose products, an RS 130, an RD160, and two RS 520s. so I can’t really hate them. For myself, even though the software could be better, it suits my needs and once you get used to its quirks (which takes a long time) I love the sound and flexibility. Remember, there is no software manual. In spite of all of this, I’m a very happy customer. If you don’t mind a fairly steep learning curve, there isn’t anything better.

Dear HiFi Rose users

We are actively working on fixing bugs, especially in core aspects of streaming, app control, standby behavior, and more.
We will continue to strive to create the best products.

Please add gapless DSD to that list.

@Tony22

When using the Gapless function, it is not that DSD music cannot be played, but it is currently blocked by our software. When using the Gapless function, DSD sound sources can be played, but noise occurs when playing some DSD sound sources. We will identify and fix the issue as soon as possible.

This is the exact same answer that you given me two years ago. It’s like a script of answers. @Tony22 That means never it’s impossible for them.

We are not able to add every feature requested by users.
In the future, when we receive user requests, we will first share them with our software and hardware teams.
If we receive confirmation that the feature will be added, we will then make it official.
We are also considering building a system that will allow us to provide updates on the status of each request, including whether or not it will move forward.

@ROSEHAN if DSD gapless playback it’s a user request and not basic functionality then you are playing with our minds. Get serious
