The recent updates are really problematic. I keep getting “the system needs to be optimized” message and could only get rid of them by restarting…
Sometimes I also get notifications that the system needs to be restarted for stable operation. Please let me know what is going on with my RS250 @ROSEHAN @ROSELOA
This is only after the most recent 4.7 update.
Hello,
I apologize about the issue,
‘The system needs to be optimized’ message should appear only when RS250 is turned on. (Not from standby mode)
As I understood, you’re getting the message even when you didn’t turn the RS250 on.
- May I kindly ask what action you performed on the device that resulted in the appearance of that message?
- What’s the ROSE ID of your RS250?
(RS250 > Settings > SystemInfo > ROSE ID)
Best Regards,
Hi, thank you for your reply. I was using RS250 as a roon endpoint, it was turned on but I did not perform any other actions. I’ll get the notification about 20-30 minutes of operation. I could only get rid of this notification by restarting because the progress bar of this notification was stuck at 0%. After restarting, this notification reappeared but it successfully proceeded to 100% and went away. However, the same thing will happen after a while and I have to do everything all over again.
I hope this explained the situation clearly.
I will send you my ROSE ID by DM later.
Thank you!
Solved by turning off for a day.
This “the system needs to be optimized” message which appears when I turn on my RS250, each and every day - does it need to be visible?
Can’t it do that in the background, as it is loading up the interface?
It didn’t used to be like this.
Please see my post above. The message went away after leaving the unit off for a day or so. Restarting DID NOT work.
Today (July 1) I started having the same problem. I am using a RS250A with iTunes 12.12.9.4 installed on a Windows 11 laptop. I am also running 4.7 OS. I tried unplugging with no change.
As previously mentioned, I am using an RS250A with iTunes installed on a Windows 11 laptop. Yesterday, I was streaming music to the 250A, and it started requesting a restart and then it would optimize. I could not stream music. This morning, I realized it was one specific album which caused the restart. As soon as I que up the “bad” album (or any song off the “bad album”), the 250A requested a restart. Evey time. This same album plays just fine through all my other Airplay devices. I found the problem: the album cover artwork, stored as part of the metadata was too large for the 250A – 1500x1500 pixels. As soon as I reduced the size of the artwork, everything worked. In my case, it had nothing to do with 4.7 OS, I just hadn’t played that specific album before.
Well, the message came back. Let’s see how long it can stay away this time.
Mine started doing this today also. I hope this gets resolved soon. Never happened before the last update…
As in the previous post, this applies to iTunes streaming ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) files to the RS250a. If the album cover artwork, as stored in the metadata of each track, exceeds 500KB in size, the RS250a will not display it, and the unit displays “restart.” The music will continue to play but no artwork appears. What is bad is that the RS250a will NEVER display artwork (no matter the size) until you restart (with optimizing, etc.) the machine. After the restart, if another file with greater than 500KB artwork comes along, the whole process repeats (forever). This size artwork is relatively small so it’s a bit of a shock.
It looks like a lot of factors could trigger the optimization message. Perhaps it was a Roon-Rose compatibility issue in my case. Anyway I hope Rose can identify the cause of it and get it fixed.
Hello Charlie,
Would you check the message I sent you?
It’s not gone away, it happens every day that I turn on the RS250.
Is it here to stay, or is there going to be a fix?
I do not use an internal storage device to play music, just Tidal and Radio through the Rose HiFi App.
In recent update, optimization features have been added to run the service more stably.
There is no optimization process when standby mode is used, but it is implemented to perform the process of optimizing storage and memory areas when completely restarting.
In the future, we will make the optimization process smarter to reduce the optimization time.
If the optimization process is cumbersome, we recommend using standby mode.
Thank you
@ROSEHAN I use standby mode, but optimization still happens once in a while. It usually shows up when I use Roon if that helps.
@luxury_scruff there is no way to make it go away permanently, at least before ROSE comes up with a fix. Restarting can keep it at bay for some time in my case. Good luck!
I’ve always used standby mode and I get that message every day that I switch it on, out of standby mode.
@ROSEHAN this new “optimization” process makes things much worse than before. Please revert to previous firmware. Sometimes I keep getting “optimization” prompts and have to restart the streamer. This is by far the worst firmware update I had.
So far this problem only happens when I use RS250 as a roon endpoint. I’m trying to reproduce it using Rose’s own player.
Edit: Reproduced. Like Roon, optimization message appeared when hitting play button after pausing.
