On the RS-520… can I deactivate the amplifier and simultaneously select Line Out and HDMI Out? When I select either of the outputs the unit will disable the other output. Is there any way I can activate both outputs simultaneously?

That is certainly unfortunate and disappointing.
Update: I solved the issue. Apparently it is not necessary to actually select HDMI Out and Line Out simultaneously when utilizing an external amplifier. I selected Line Out on the Rose and connected the HDMI cable and all is well. I had created my own issue by trying to select HDMI Out when that was not necessary. I now have the audio sent to my McIntosh amp and video showing on the TV I added to the system.

You have to be a fox and not just have a bushy tail!
If the Rose devices work properly, i.e. without errors, and you are a little clever and spend some time looking into the whole subject, you should be able to get your specifications right with different devices. I think it’s great…You’ve done it the way you want it now.
