Hello Rosehan,
Actually, the advantage of a remote like the Logitech Harmony is that it replaces all your other remotes. You can learn the infrared commands from each remote or retrieve them from the original manufacturer’s database. This allows you to create a Device for each original remote.
Then, the main advantage is the creation of Activities, which allows you to chain commands for all your Devices and then control them with a single remote, either via physical buttons or its color touchscreen.
Let’s take an example of my Rose HiFi system, which consists of:
- RS130
- RD160
- Atoll PR400 preamplifier
- 4 Atoll AM400 amplifiers. A single press of the Music Activity button on the screen of my Logitech Harmony Elite remote turns on my entire system and starts playing a favorite radio station on my RS130.
The initial activity sequence includes:
-
a power-on command for the RS130 and a series of commands that replicate the actions required to start listening to my favorite radio station.
-
a power-on command for the RD160.
-
the power-on command for the PR400 activates the first two AM400s via two trigger cables.
-
the power-on command for the RD160 activates the last two AM400s via two trigger cables.
Important note:
Logitech has stopped manufacturing Harmony remotes, but its servers are still active.
Remotes that operate on the same principle as Logitech Harmony remotes are now available.
Example: Sofabaton remotes
