Note that this device is on Android 14.
Of course their UI and overall UX is lacking.
I’m sure we’ll see a review from Ed, Old Guy Hi Fi channel shortly.

But you are almost certainly referring to software programmed by third-party providers.
Did you read the comments, too?
Lachlan, if you haven’t already, you should check out the Lyngdorf streamer / amps like the TDAI-2210. I picked one up last week and it is MARVELOUS at streaming, speaker and headphone amplification, and room correction. Embarrasses my NAD M10v2. And it’s amp is ALL DIGITAL so no traditional DAC. The system waits till the last second to convert the digital signal into PWM. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it! Great review as always! Thanks for being you.
I find the presentation of the device by our German hi-fi “experts” to be somewhat better.
The only thing I noticed in the video is that the timeline for a track covers up the artist’s name.
Starting at 10:55.
The point is that the UI is the challenge to the AIOs.
Now note that its on Android 14… wonder if they have spotify lossless?
[edit]
Note that there are a lot of YT reviews for this device.
Still trying to see if it offers spotify lossless.
Note that this is only a streamer … lots of features for a chi-fi unit.
Hi Mike,
It was clear to me from the very beginning that this is strictly a transport. At that price point, it would actually be a good fit for my second system—the one where I originally intended to use the EverSolo Play. However, if I went that route, I wouldn’t be able to use my vintage amplifier anymore.
With the HYFIOO, I could connect it via S/PDIF or Toslink to my old Pioneer N-70—a unit that, unfortunately, is no longer supported and which I therefore currently use solely as a DAC. The analog output of the Pioneer, of course, goes into my vintage amplifier.
Alternatively, I could just skip it, put my vintage amplifier on display in a cabinet, and spring for the EverSolo Play for an extra €200. The EverSolo Play is Roon Ready—a feature the HYFIOO is also supposed to have (according to AI), though that strikes me as too speculative. Given the choice, I’d rather play it safe and go with the EverSolo Play (the version without the CD drive).
I understand you got it, but there are others here.
And I didn’t want someone to point it out later…
Looking at this device, the question is if it has a spotify app, or spotify connect. (Most likely spotify connect. ) And if it is running spotify connect, does it support lossless?
Some information seems to suggest that it does… But no confirmation.
Spotify does opensource some of their code …
[Edit] Interesting they’ve played w Beam and Flink. Haven’t touched that for years now…
Reach out to Chi-Fi Christian Schwarzbeck—China-HiFi on YouTube. He’s a good guy.
He has the device, so ask him what the situation looks like regarding Spotify.
Don’t need.
There are a couple floating around some of the YT folks. There’s one in Chicago,
Ed, Old guy Hi-fi did a review a couple of months ago, likes it but didn’t do spotify.
Look at it this way. If the device runs spotify connect and it can do lossless then the issue with Rose is that its running a much older version of Android and Spotify didn’t want to backport the libraries to Android 7.
This device is on Android 14.
I suspect when Rose starts to release new kit… they will consider moving to a newer release of Android. The issue though it that when you migrate major versions of software… its never going to be a fun experience.
As to the device… streamer only and no DAC? I’ll pass. I prefer the AIO footprint.
(This is why I’d love to see Rose offer the ability to swap dac cards or have the option of additional port cards. (e.g. XLR in/out or a Phono stage) You can see this in some other competitor devices.
But Mikey—since your 520 was the dealbreaker for you—how much would the new devices from Rose have to cost if your wishes were actually to come true?
I would prefer to see Rose perfect what they have (fix the software and app) before they add a phono preamp. There are plenty of good and inexpensive phono preamps out there already. I do like the idea of modules though.
Sure but I was using it as an example of how they could improve the next generation.
@Bonte, I will keep the RS520 for as long as it runs.
But I do have other rooms in my home.
If I upgrade my office… I could take the RS520 and use it in the bedroom to drive external speakers from my TV via hdmi.
So there are options.
Good morning.
Naturally, there are always options, and you can actually do a lot with the 520 if you are willing to take a few detours. However, this requires some understanding of computers and software, as well as a bit of knowledge regarding electronics.
Huh?
Slow down… drink that coffee.
Look, the RS520 is an AIO. It has a lot of features built in…
While I don’t really get the value of HDMI out…
eARC makes sense.
In the bedroom, I can use the RS520 to run speakers over the TV’s internal speakers. Also if I want to listen to music… I have a stereo that can use either the TV than can run Spotify’s app (including lossless) Or use airplay or spotify connect.
Granted I repurposed my MB20 to improve the BT or to give the RS520 the ability of BT out… (e.g. Rose Tube to wireless head phones.) I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t already have the MB20.
If I convert one of my servers to an audio server, I guess I could use a toslink connection…
But that’s pushing it.
Nah, I was just heading out to work. I have to leave the house for my job, so I get to be out in nature. No “square eyes” from working from home for me!
I guess you Germans don’t have cup holders in your cars.
That’s exactly the kind of thing I mean—or, for example, an understanding of image editing for cover art, or some familiarity with MP3tag, and so on.
Do I really have to spell absolutely everything out for you, or can you connect the dots a little bit yourself?

Oh, what a load of nonsense—only Americans could come up with something like that. We have drinking tubes in our cars, with various different liquids. You’re really living under a rock, Mikey.
Well you’re the one who said he was rushing out the door and didn’t have time for a coffee.
I don’t drink coffee; if I drink anything, it’s tea. I use herbs from our local region, along with a bit of dandelion root, ginger, cloves, and hibiscus blossoms. It’s all excellent for high blood pressure and has a relaxing effect. You really ought to cut out your Red Bull and those chemical-laden drinks of yours, and switch to something a bit more natural! After all, you’re already being poisoned enough by lead-filled water pipes. It’s a slow, creeping death.

I am beginning to suspect that our Mikey is just a masochist and simply gets off on people pointing fingers at him and noticing just how clueless he is. Well, whatever float your boat, Mikey.
Yeah, because that would make any difference!
Boris… clearly you have no clue.
I’d blame it on a diet of vodka for every meal, yet I know a couple of Russians who could do it and still function. Maybe theirs wasn’t made in a bathtub or used methanol?
Please go away, adults are talking.
