Low volume on digital output

Good evening.
I found an odd thing on RS201E. For some reason when a line out is fixed digital out on Toslink is fixed on 25/100 volume.
This is the first time I saw any device with variable digital depending on analog output settings.
Of course, such a level is not enough for any listening as gain on preamplifier has to be sky high.
Please, fix that.

Hello,

Would you check if I understood correctly?

  1. You set ‘preout level setting’ to fix volume for PREAMP OUT
  2. Now you hope to use… RS201 -(OPT OUT) - DAC - AMP - SPK
  3. But the volume of OPTICAL OUT is fixed on 25 and you can’t control it.

Yes. I used it as the digital source on analog outputs so I disabled pre-out.
It is connected to DAC (Luxman) which is connected to amplification, and then to speakers.
However, if I enable variable output on the analog device it affects digital output as well.

Thanks in advance,
Danijel

Hello,

It’s because RS201’s digital output goes through the DAC process in the internal DAC and goes out to the ADC.

Should I then fix the output but with maximum power? Now it is set to 500 mV. Should I set it in 3000 mV?

Thank you,
Danijel

Update
It works like a charm.
I set the fixed level to 2000mV and Toslink out is now definitely loud enough, albeit I strongly dislike digitally controlled volume as it compromises digital signal.
