Migrating to RS151

I see the RS151 is available for pre-ordering. My question is, will the RS151 with its upgraded OS (I understand it is using Android 12) accept the library of music that I ripped on to SSD on my RS150B?

To ask the question another way. Will I be able to remove the SSD from the RS150B and place it into the RS151 and keep my music library intact? Or will I need to do some intermediate steps first?

Dear Patrick,

Before switching to the RS151, make sure you actually need it and understand what you need it for.

You definitely wont gain anything in terms of sound quality. The operating system is the same. Android 12 simply means the system will load a bit faster, but you might not even notice that.

You should be able to install your old SSD into the RS151 without any issues.

How do you know about that?

Schon mal den gehört.

I am not sure that they do know. As far as I know, it has not been released yet. This is supposed to have an upgraded DAC and clock, so theoretically, there should be improvement. Audible? That remains to be seen.

I am just looking for a better user experience as the RS150B is a bit wonky in my experience. You can find other postings from me on this site when I first got this nearly 3 years ago. I suspect the UI will be more stable. At least I hope so.

I have my RS150 since almost 4 yrs now, and it does what it was meant to do in my Setup.
Its a Backend in my Roon Environment. Except for some testings, I do not use the internal disc on a daily base, its filled with lots of Demo Songs, to be able to compare, if someone wants to do a comparison in my setup. And I’m not even using the internal DAC very often, at least since I upgraded the power strip some weeks ago. I have an External DAC. Though the logic would lead me to the RS130, but after reading of lots of issues (which I don’t have) I resisted to get one so far. Now with the RS151, its time to see, how much the Hifi Rose products did get better. My dealer will leand me for testing as soon as he gets one on stock (3 weeks or so).
I will then do test, and see how it sound. Others here and on YT will for sure do the same.
I can easily live with my RS150, but after 4 yrs I’d like to have something new, before I get bored

Nein, deswegen war die Frage ja, warum Du schreibst, dass jemand definitiv nichts gewinnen wĂĽrde mit dem RS151.

Maybe getting the RS151B with its awesome chip over the RS150 will be a real eye-opener for you…

Maybe you’ll finally toss out all your bass traps, stop fighting, and actually start listening…

But hey, no promises!

There are those silly things called “science” and “engineering” that are pretty useful for finding these things out.

Not to say that a 151 may not be a worthwhile upgrade if you want a shiny new toy. Why not? But for audible improvement – no. Really, a Wiim with properly done room correction might sound better than any Rose (or, for that matter, a $100K Wadax) without.
