Modifying the lower 8 bits

Can anyone share their thoughts on whether this option should be selected?
Thank you.

@gauchocat

Some DACs may generate noise when playing a 32-bit sound source with a high sampling rate. In this case, it is used to reduce noise by correcting the lower 8 bits.

Thank you

What exactly is happening in the signal when this option is activated and if the DAC has a problem with the lower 8 bits, would there be a permanent noise floor or just noise in between of tones?

@ROSEHAN
I saw you’re new streamer at the high-end munich exhibition in combination with the Holo Audio May DAC, what is the recommended setting for this DAC?

I’m using ROON with the RS250a and the SPRING 3 DAC, therefore I’m always getting a 32bit signal.

Thanks a lot :slight_smile:

@ROSEHAN Do you have any infos on that?

@aidmade

I’m sorry for late reply.
We are here to answer your questions.

  1. Whitening noise occurs when playing a 32-bit sound source when Rose device is connected to an external DAC. Not all DACs are like this, but this phenomenon appears only in a few DACs when connected to Rose device. In that case, the whitening noise will disappear if you turn on the The low 8 bits of a 32-bit sound sources will have corrected function.

  2. At the High-end Munich exhibition we used the RS130+Holo Audio May DAC+RA180.
    The input settings of the Holo Audio May DAC was connected via USB and set to oversampling mode. The rest of the settings were set to default.

Thank you
