And you wonder why there are these tariff things.
That wasn’t what convinced me. My friend thought he might be able to spend less and get a sound comparable to the Rose RS 151 or Lumin P1 mini. Unfortunately, he wasn’t impressed, so we took the player to me and another person. Each of us has different electronics, speakers, and cables, and the Ever Solo performed the worst for everyone. Despite the lowest price and the best discounts, no one bought the Ever Solo. Two of us bought the Rose RS 151, and a third friend bought the Lumin P1 mini.
Quite possibly true, although we do not know for sure whether Zidoo specifically is subsidized or not. And quite possibly boycotting Chinese goods is a correct choice. But it has absolutely nothing to do with either sound or build quality of ether ES or Rose devices.3
Sorry, but sighted comparisons with rampant expectation bias are absolutely worthless. In any proper blind test you would not tell ES from Rose. Or from a Wiim for that matter. Of course, an ES device set up with proper sub integration and DRC will completely destroy even a dCS or some really high-end brand set up without them.
Actually, this is a perfect counterexample. People buy a Rose, or Lumin over EverSolo for the same reason they’d buy a 3-cylinder Mercedes – because it has a fancier logo.
They have been as good sonically since the very first model they released. What they do not have is the brand name cachet, so people who care about brand names more about the sound will look at, say, Lumin, even though it’s an equally Chinese company selling equally snake-oily products that sound exactly the same.
Sales numbers say otherwise.
Even ignoring really high end brands (Burmester would sell less than Rose or ES by definition, even if although also sounding pretty much the same it is light years ahead of either in engineering and build quality and support) once you step out of “audiophile” forums where people congratulate each other on finding the most expensive power cable, brands that offer actual value outsell.
You misunderstood. It’s not about buying a Mercedes with a three-cylinder engine because it has a better logo. No serious car enthusiast or Mercedes enthusiast would consider buying a car from this manufacturer with a three-cylinder engine because it’s a disgrace to the automotive industry. I’ve owned various cars, and now I’m driving a very well-equipped GLC, and I wouldn’t even consider buying a Mercedes with a three-cylinder engine because of the logo on the hood. Similarly, in audio, if someone has a Mercedes installed in their showroom, even a B-Class, no one will consider buying an Ever Solo, because there are plenty of devices that sound better, and as you can see, even though they could spend less, they’d rather spend more and buy something else. Despite the fact that many of these people, like my friend, wanted to spend less on a streamer because, like me, he listens to CDs, and a streamer is a secondary consideration for both him and me, he still spent more because he liked the Rose RS 151’s sound better.
And I’ll say it again, if you like the Ever Solo, just buy it and you’ll be happy. From what you’re describing, it doesn’t matter what you listen to, because everything sounds very similar.
Serious… maybe. But there are lots of people who are buying lowest models from MB (or BMW, Jaguar, etc.), even if one could get a significantly better Hyundai for less money. And why are they buying them? THere vis no practical reason, but they are happier with a fancy logo. Which is more or less the same as with ES vs. an equally Chinese Lumin.
That’s the part that you haven’t proven but keep repeating. No, they do not sound different under identical conditions, and there are very good physical reasons why they would not. They all have the same DAC chips, identically performing op-amps, and every other piece that counts.
Nope. Speakers sound different. Sometimes, expensive speakers even sound better than cheap ones (not always). Amplifiers, especially tube ones, can sound very different, if you are looking for that “tube sound.” But not any well-made DAC. Especially if they are all assembled from exactly the same off the shelf parts to the same reference design. You need to go quite esoteric to find a DAC that sounds different (tube Lampizators come to mind, or maybe some job from PS Audio that is incapable of reproducing a sinewave that looks like a sinewave). Some people might even find them pleasant, just as some people like tube amp sound. But accurate DACs that aim to output as close to a platonic ideal analog signal as possible are really dime a dozen now, and their output is identical to some orders of magnitude above anything anyone could hear. 15 years ago it was different. But not today.
“Europe is a good example of what people like to listen to, and it’s definitely not Ever Solo.”
Europe is a good example of what people like to listen to, and it’s definitely not Ever Solo."
I don’t like this segregation. I’ve been a European since birth. And after four years of struggling with my Rose 150B, I bought an EverSolo DMP-A10. And I don’t care whether the Chinese government subsidizes certain companies or not. Since I have extensive engineering knowledge in electronics and audio, I can say with absolute certainty that all those so-called top companies you mentioned are already in trouble. EverSolo made great equipment and they really support their customers. Rose still doesn’t have lossless Spotify. And that’s a ridiculous approach to their customers.
It was a coincidence, because I was at a presentation of the Rose RS151, and next to it was a presentation of the ES DMP-A10: and I was blown away by the listening quality of the DMP-A10. Then I listened in detail at the dealer’s. And I formed an opinion on the presented device.
I’m sorry, but again… would you have heard of the brand if it were not for YT influencers/reviewers?
Or your friend hearing about it.
The key is that you have to consider how things are getting marketed when you have direct to consumer sales. Now of course Eversolo has dealers and distributors… but in the beginning it was a way to get noticed.
I also really like mainly Japanese electronics. What’s more, I’ve been using only Japanese amplifiers for 30 years.

There is nothing wrong w Japanese amps and gear.
When I was in the Mon Acoustic room at the last AXPONA, they were using an Accuphase Integrated Amp.
At the time there was an older couple listening to the mon mini s and they were playing a classical record. Amazing.
The Rose also is a good match to the Mon speakers.
The bookshelf speakers tend to open up w power and then add in a fast sub like the REL, its nice.
Is it perfect no. But this system is set up for my office where its pretty much near field and I need true bookshelf instead of stand mounts.
I also wanted class D over A or AB. ( I could have gone w Arcam which has their Class G that’s something betwen an AB and D …)
There are a lot of choices in the sub 10K space… including separates.
Careful Mike, don’t mention REL…
99,9 % of my friends exclusively use Tidal or Qoubuz, and most of them use both. Like me, Spotify might as well be nonexistent for me, and there are still some videos that seem to disagree completely with Spotify being a loss-making service.
But even though I don’t use Spotify and have a mediocre opinion of it, I think Rose needs to deal with Spotify in the future, because young people use Spotify, but people in their 40s and 50s, who have decent streaming services, use other music services.
I don’t really like Luxman amplifiers, I tried the 509 model in my studio and it didn’t appeal to me, but I like Luxman power amplifiers and I don’t remember the model, but I listened to something in class A in the living room and it sounded nice, but the 509 amplifier is definitely a weaker device than Accuphase or Esotercia.
Here in the photo you see one of the best Class A amplifiers, the Luxman L-550AXII Mark II – pure Class A up to 40 W. It beats most Accuphase amplifiers. And the internal design is a masterpiece. A fantastic MM/MC preamplifier. I’ve been using it for four years now, and it’s amazing.
Accuphase is overrated.
Accuphase is overrated, good joke, quote of the month
Look at the sales of Luxman compared to Accuphase. People don’t know what they’re paying for, and what’s more, they’re paying twice as much as, say, the Luxman L-550AXII. The Accuphase E 700 is a much nicer and more efficient amplifier, while the Accuphase E800 eats the Luxman for breakfast, chews it up for lunch, and spits it out for dinner.
You have the syndrome of saying that what you have is the best, and basically everything else is overrated and crap.
Man, your amplifier has trouble driving the Sonus Faber Olympica Nova 3 speakers. This amplifier is a complete disaster. A friend of mine had them and wanted to buy Sonus Faber speakers, and the amplifier barely powered them. He swapped them for the E 700, and the amplifier handled them without a problem. The E800 easily handles, for example, the SF Olympica Nova 5 and Serafino Tradition, the Dynaudio Confidence 30, where the Luxman L-550AXII amplifier would die next to these speakers.
You have no idea what you’re talking about. Listen to these amplifiers first, compare them with their respective speakers, and don’t write fairy tales, because what you have has to be the best in the world.
The Luxman 509 is a complete disaster, and I compared it to both Accuphase, Esoteric, and T+A.
The Luxman A-class power amp was nice, and I liked that, although I would have preferred the Accuphase A80, but in this case, the Luxman was okay. Integrated amplifiers are so-so and sell very poorly; Accuphase, Esoteric, and Mac sell much better.
LOL
There are a couple of other Subs out there.
The reason I got the REL was that I live around the corner from a Best Buy, had to pick something up and walked into the Magnolia store and was able to get a good deal on an open boxed unit that was a store Demo.
The other fast sub mentioned was Rythmik but that was more money and larger.
I have to worry about WAF and in my office the one sub works. If I was going to move this out to the living room, I’d do something different. And actually I’d keep the RS520 here and get something different.
Leo from Orchard Audio just announced that he’s adding a sub board to his monoblocks that lets you swap op amps… his upgrade kit comes w two Sparkos op amps. This w something like the RS451 would be cool.
Yes, that would be it.
As a German, I would probably opt for T+A, if I had two mono power amplifiers or one stereo power amplifier.
Yeah the T+A are nice.
I saw dual Wi-Fi antennas, two RJ45 inputs… but no BT while there’s an external FM antenna?
There are a lot of options in terms of a pre-amp that is also a streamer / DAC
