Optical connection

I tried to connect my TV to my Streamer Rose RS 250A using an optical cable, but the Streamer had no signal. The same goes for connecting my external hard drive (USB).
Can somebody help?

Thanks

Did you set your tv to output toslink digital in PCM?

Hi Ginger,

Thanks for the feedback.

I have an old Sony Bravia television ( more or less twenty years old) and it doesn’t really offer any options for outputs: in fact it’s two options: TV speakers and audio system.
Given these limitation options, I was wondering if I was selecting the right options on the Streamer…

Thanks,

Jean-Philippe

I must assume you selected the optical input on the streamer? Does any light come out of the cable on the streamer side, when connected to the tv (and the tv is on)?

Hi Jobbie,

Yes,
I did select “Opt In” on the front screen and also, I connect the optical cable in the " In" (Optical entry) in the back of the Streamer. And yes, there is a red light coming out of the cable as soon as I put the TV on.
Also, I have choice of “TV speakers” or “Audio system” when I made my selection on the TV. Of course, I selected “Audio System”.
Finally, it usually works, I tested before, few months ago on an old ampli I had.

Thanks in advance for your help.

IMO, those seem the right steps to take. Sorry to not be able to help you any further.
Could you perhaps reach out to your dealer for assistance?

Your TV is likely outputting Dolby Digital or DTS, and the Rose cannot decode that. Most TV’s allow you to select the type of digital signal to output (you want PCM). Send your TV model number, or look up the manual online.

Thanks Ginger Beard for the clarification. I finally gave up and installed an RCA cable which works very well.
I think you were right, my TV is outputting Dolby Digital.

In any case, thanks for the many feedbacks.

Hi Jobbie,

You don’t have to be sorry.
I finally gave up and installed an RCA cable which works very well. Like Ginger was saying, my TV is outputting Dolby Digital.

Many thanks again.
