As I have shared prior there is significant issue with the RS130 producing a pop sound when a track is manually changed or paused and restarted or when the sample rate changes when using the i2s output. This condition is 100% reproducible when using Tidal and Qobuz or local music via Rose Connect or directly from the Hifi Rose RS130 or via IOS or Android.
This does not happen for all users and the variables are most likely too many to narrow down with 100% certainty the issue but I did find one interesting constant:
When using Roon. Zero pops. Not a single one. I have identified what the difference is. With Roon the RS130 doesn’t use the onboard 256gb SSD for caching.
My theory and I hope that Rose will look into this, there is an issue with some external DAC’s and the caching scheme that is used that causes some audible pop under the conditions I listed above when using i2s without Roon.
Many others have reported this issue when using i2s without Roon since Roon was only recently made available for the RS130 and now that we have Roon I would be curious if the issue is now not an issue when using Roon over i2s but is still an issue when not using Roon over i2s.
In summary I think there needs to be some refinement on how the Rose software under the RS130 caches and retrieves data from the onboard 256 SSD.
Please let me know if you need more info on troubleshooting this ongoing issue.
