Pre-Out Level at Output settings RS151

Sounds good to me, 1000 mV It works at my place …

I understand what you’re saying. Look, if 1000mV works for you, then go ahead and set it to 1000mV. In my case, I’m going to leave it at 2000mV, given that compared to my PrimaLuna Evo 300 Hybrid, the 2000mV setting sends a signal with less noise, and using the volume at 8:45 a.m. (think of the knob as a clock), I don’t experience distortion or anything like that.

I am going to experiment with that. 8.45 is also my normal volume. Thanks for the input

You’re not making it sufficiently clear whether you believe that voltages are summed across channels, or just have no clue what balanced vs. unbalanced means.

Sure, let’s kill the frequency response in the treble. Not that you would be able to tell one filter from another in any case.

What would you do Boris if it was up to you. I see that you do not agree with JMBARG.
What mV setting and what filter would you suggest?.

2V (2000mV) is more or less the standard for unbalanced (and 4V for balanced) connections, so I would start there. If it gives you sufficient output volume and there’s no noise, it should be good enough.

If you want to tweak it more, get a track with digital silence or better yet -120db tone. Set the output level to the point where there is no noise coming from the speakers even at the maximum volume, and, if using the test tone, you can just hear it from the speakers.

Note that not every preamp/amp has enough gain to actually make -120db signal audible. If you can’t hear anything, leave it at around 2V, as long as there’s no noise.

Boris, thanks for existing! What would we do without you?

You probably would be sticking a fork into the wall socket.

He guys come on !!! No fights here. We are out here to help each other

JMBARG and BorisM. I have set the mv to 2000 and everything sounds fine so I will leave it that way. And finally what is the best filter setting for jazz music? JMBARG, yours is Min Phase Slow Roll off or have you changed anything in the meantime ?

Boris likes to annoy and disrespect everyone; when God created the universe, he also decided to create Boris, so he could be above us all. We should be grateful for his existence.

Filter: It is my personal taste, to use the filter that I told you about (to my understanding and perception, it gives me warmth, texture, spaciousness and things sound like me, I like them to sound), I use it for all my music: Jazz - Rock - Classical - Electronica. I play exclusively from an external USB 3 hard drive, which contains 1 Bit DSD Vinyl Rips - 32 Bit WavPack - SACD ISO Files - 16 - 24 - 32 Bit Flack & Wav. I never connect the equipment to the Internet, in my case it is a DAC with display.

I get it. Thanks for your help. it is much appreciated.

At the end of the day, it’s your ears and your tastes that rule, the rest is all just stories.

2V should be a perfectly fine setting. Unless you have to turn up the volume on the Naim far more than with other sources, might as well keep it there.

As far as filters go, it is very unlikely that you would actually hear the difference. And it does not really depend on what kind of music you are listening to. Slow roll-off filters are, well, slow and start dropping frequency response at relatively low frequencies. That’s what makes them “warm” – there’s no treble. Of course if your hearing is similar to that of a normal person and you aren’t a teenager, you won’t hear any difference either way. Pre-ringing might be more objectionable, so I’d chose any of the short delay filters.

Maybe if you were capable of somehow preventing yourself from posting obvious nonsense like " 1000mV (500mV per channel)," or implying that storing your music on a USB 3 disk or not connecting to the internet has any effect on sound quality, then there wouldn’t be any need to ridicule you.

I contacted NAIM and they advised 2000mV (Same mV as their own NDX2 streamer) so problem solved. Thanks everyone for helping me out.

Sorry, cabron, but as much as it might wound your sense of self-importance, existence of people with negative IQ, like you, while slightly annoying, does not make anyone unhappy.
