Pre out Setting RS151

Hello,

I own an RS151 and a Luxman 509Z. I’d like to know your preout settings. Does this setting only affect the volume or also the sound quality?

Currently, I’m at 4000 mvs. Is that too high?

Thanks,
Fred

It depends on your pre.
Normally I’m using my Holo Audio May as DAC, but sometimes the internal DAC connected balanced to the Primare PRE35 Prisma.
Without setting the preout level in the Rose my Primare shows overloading and so I reduced it, until the message went away and then also one step more (I want have at least 3 dB head room → half power → half voltage).
This should prevent the system in distortions and also you should have a good level for your volume control.

According to the Luxman manual the input sensitivity of the line level input is 180 mV so I would say 4V is way too high. You should check with Luxman support to see what they recommend, but I would take it down.

After checking the line input sensitivity of the Luxman 509Z, it is confirmed to be 180 mV.
When setting the pre-out level on the RS151, it should be reasonably matched to the amplifier you are using.

We recommend setting the RS151 pre-out level to around 500 mV as a starting point.
If clipping occurs, gradually lower the pre-out level.
If no clipping occurs but the volume is too low, gradually increase the pre-out level.

Adjust the setting step by step to find the optimal balance for your system.
