I noticed that some photos show three MUSES02s per channel, which is different from the five shown on the official website.
Which version is actually released?
Pictures?
3 per channel would make sense, 1 for RCA and 2 for XLR. But most important: this defines the sound quality. These are good chip opamps but not the ultimate. Discrete opamps like Burson or Sparkos could make a big improvement in sound quality.
I find this a rather strange choice in a product of this price. It’s just begging for an upgrade.
It’s strange. The first seems to be the production model with dual opamps. That’s a dual channel per signal pin. That should be more than enough.
The second seems a prototype then.
Still, I don’t understand why they didn’t make a discrete circuit themselves in a dac of this price. These opamps are highly regarded chip opamps, and its easy to upgrade this way to better discrete opamps. Ten Burson opamps for one DAC, I’m sure that would make them really happy. Total overkill though. Now you can choose 2 for RCA and you’re done. Or 4 for XLR. But why spend precious resources on expensive chip opamps when you can make a discrete circuit? I know of better discrete opamps cheaper than Muses02.
