RD160 Preout to preamp

I have just ordered a RD160 from my local dealer, I plan on using the preout from the RD160 to my Krell pre-amp. Is there a way to set the output of the RD160 to a fixed volume?

Hi,
You can set the pre out level between 1 and 9 volts depending on the pre out overload on your amp, also depends on wether your using rca or xlr .This bypasses the volume control on the 160 so you will be able to control the volume on your pre amp.

I use XLR, aren’t most around 3 volts?

Yes, that is pretty normal. The nice thing about fixed output is you can adjust to the level that make your preamp “happiest”.

I can’t wait to receive it! The RS130 will be next up to buy

I use 4v output through my xlr cables. My amps output overload is 5.5 volts, worth checking just to make sure you don’t go higher than the manufacturer recommends.
I have the 130 paired with the 160, together using the SFP modules they sound pretty good. Highly recommend :+1:

Same here. RS130 to RD160 by fiber and fiber in to the 130. My preamp maker (Zesto Leto Ultra II) says that 12 o’clock on the preamp volume is ideal so I adjust the RD160 so I achieve that. Turns out 3V by XLR is good.

I did some test on 2v-3v-4v. Final choice is 2v for me. Aslo, ask chat GPT by adding all your component in the prompt, you’ll be surprised.
