Remote, Hard Drives etc

So far unit is very cool looking and where it excels is in sound quality, but I am sure some “software (firmware)” updates will be needed to work the kinks out. Here are some issues see below:

Remote and Use of External Hard Drives?
1.) Currently my remote is paired and everything except the - button for down volume does not work, I just received it today and it will not turn down volume, only if you physically push down very hard will it work, so the remote itself is bad.

2.) How can one get an external hard drive to be recognized by this unit? I have several 5TB drives and no matter how I plug it in it will not be recognized. I am thinking of buying an internal one soon.

3.) Ordered unit through Music Direct, do I need to go through them to get a new remote or do I have to return the whole unit?

4.) Unit occasionally locks up and freezes then needs to be re-booted, if these issues above are resolved, I would give this unit a 9 out of 10… But right now, unsure… If you can transfer files easy, or you can use an external HD Drive and use your own music and stream at the same time, this would make a killer unit. I sold my Sony HAP, as it would not stream and copying files was just too slow.

Thanks for any help!

Hi
I believe all HDD need to be formatted to ex/fat
I had mine attached to a Mac and it wouldn’t find it until I had reformatted.

Paul: Thanks for the reply, I am in the middle of transferring files to a HD Drive that I formatted via Ex/Fat I to am an Apple Fan. I just got mine yesterday trying to find a device that can playback my HDD music in many different formats and be able to stream via Quboz/Tidal etc… So far this is very cool looking but, software is causing some issues with it freezing up. I had a Sony HAP, zero issues with it playing back music on it as long as you format it correctly, but it took way too long. So far how are you liking yours, still debating keeping it or not, a few more days with it will determine that just trying to find the right rig to do what I want and so far I am 0-3, as buggy software seems to be the issues with a lot of these units.

Not had mine long - first ever streamer so can’t comment on others although I did have my eye on the Sony HAP at one point .
I tend to use the rose app a lot rather than touching the rose - it seems to work great and it just flick though the files on my iPhone . The sound is great , it suits me as I’ve got a vintage Sony HMK- 70 record deck going into the rose - then into my marantz amp.
I suppose I just like the ease of the streamer , like the way you can see the album , clock or VU meter - again via app. If I loose the album art at any point I just press the previous button .
So yes I’m happy with it - can’t say I have had any major glitches.

Well I have only had mine a day, so hopefully the glitches work there way out. Hooked up a USB drive it read it right away and loaded all the Songs from the drive to the unit with easy about 30-45 sec, but if you try to play before they load it can cause the software to get hung up. It’s growing on me, currently formatted a 4TB HD external drive in EX/FAT format and will give that a whirl once music loads onto it. I ordered a 4TB HD Internal drive for it, so hopefully I can install that and just use it.

Personally, I chose an external 1To ssd (in FAT32), easier to edit without disassembling everything, it works perfectly in USB3 on the RS250.
As for the infrared remote control (set to “music”), there is a small latency time for it to be active, then impeccable operation (volume…).

Herve: Most review say no issues with 4TB “Internal” drive, so that is what I went with, you can format that drive directly on the unit menu system. I currently have a 5TB I just formatted and am copying files over to, so I will be able to test that in the morning.

As far as the remote, yes small latency time, but the button on the remote is bad, on my unit.

Hello,

Hello,

  1. Does your external hard drive have a separate power supply?
  2. Who is your RS150B distributor? I will contact the distributor so that you can receive the remote control. However, it will take some time because I have to send the remote control from Korea first.
For the time being, please use the remote control of the mobile phone APP.
  3. In what cases did you get freezing? If it’s ok, can you tell me if the freezing issue still occurs after factory reset?

Best Regards,

1.) Specific hard drives are USB and 4-5TB type and not powered. Most smaller laptop types of external drives do not have power supplies. An Answer to your specific question no… Some of the newer SSD drives also are smaller and no power supplies. Right now I have a 512gb thumb drive works great, they make up to 2TB thumb drives at a price.

2.) Using the iPhone App remote, and love it so far, just hard button on volume does not work.

3.) Freezes up doesn’t respond, I have not tried a factory reset yet… I also have the newer RS250 I bought it from Music Direct and will give them a call in the morning.

Thank you for the quick response!

Maybe USB in Rose does not have sufficient power to manage such large HDD? Try SSD in external case as it is much more energy efficient. Anyway Rose recommends SSD, not HDD especially when library is huge and indexing takes a long time.

I bought mine SR250 mid of October. It does have recent FW.
As for freezes - mine SR250 was send to local distributor as it was freezing almost everyday. Freeze happened no matter the function, even at idle. Rose’s support suggested replacement of the main board. For now I must wait for service to provide any feedback. IMHO Android is the main fault.

Michal: Similar issue here, not sold on Android software there OS always seems to be buggy to me. I have only had my unit for 2 days, love it for what it can do, but the freezes are not what I paid this money for. I will do an exchange and hopefully new unit won’t have an issues. Tried to rip some CDs to the hard drive and froze about every 2 discs, had to reboot and do a factor reset. I am with you on the Android software… Seems to have no issues reading 4TB drive if it’s formatted to EXFAT…
